I recently took the Ethics Exam and got an 88% my first time. I then took it again and got another 88% and was completely frustrated. However, I noticed a question with an error in the answers. I failed the exam by 1 answer so I figured it was probably that question. I emailed CalCPA with the question and what the answer should be along with an excerpt from the book that explains the correct answer. A week later they said it was reviewed and that there was indeed an error and they gave me the passing score!! I am so ecstatic right now!

I can’t post the error on this forum, obviously, but if you failed by 1 question you might want to email CalCPA and see if they can review your test. It was the second exam if that matters (each exam is different now).

Good luck, the CA ethics exam is amazingly difficult.

Noted! Wow missing 1 question = 88 and you need a 90 to pass? So you have to get them all right? UGH!

I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

StephAV – I missed 6 questions total. I meant I missed passing by 1 question. There are 50 questions and you can only miss 5.

I caught an error on my second try of the Ethics exam (prior to submitting it) and contacted CALCPA because there was no single right answer. They reviewed it and corrected it on Tuesday. I have a feeling it's the same question that caused you to not pass the first time around. 🙂

By the way, I just passed the Ethics Exam on my second try with a 96% – That was one tough test!!! I would love to know which ones were wrong BUT I am just happy to be done with it!!!

I will be taking my Ethics exam in the next few months – haven't read anything about it… you take it at home and have a book to look up answers with? at the end, does it give you a list of the questions or do you just C&P them all as you go along?

@samdiegoCPA – I would recommend doing the PDF version. It's easier to search for the answer that way than to read the actual book. Also, you can open up the test to see the questions and answer them one at a time (no time limit) or you can print them out and research the questions and then go back to enter your answers all at once (which is what I did).

FYI – I would highly recommend researching tips for taking the exam on this site and also note that the format of the exam recently changed. You used to get 3 tries to pass the same exam (try #2 and #3 would be the same questions in a different random order). As of a few weeks ago, you now get three different exams…so if you don't pass the first time you must take a different test for try #2 and #3 (if needed).
