CA Ethics Material

Waiting on results for REG, figured I’d start on the “ethics” portion. Am having a bit of trouble figuring out all the details/discounts available for different societies.

AICPA – This is the national group. I’ve heard that there is a discount on state level ethics material if we join? There are different options but looking to join the “associate” or “affiliate”. Affiliate is supposedly $35?

CalCPA Ethics Material – They seem to be the issuer of the ethics exam in CA. The ethics material prices said $150 for non-member, $125 for member. Are they referring to a CalCPA “Candidate” membership. Looks like for CAL CPA its free for the first year an $50 for 2nd? Then bumps up to the “Associate” afterwards which is close to $500.

So, joining CalCPA makes sense now as we get a $25 discount for free…what is the benefit of joining the AICPA prior to actually getting licensed? Just curious if anyone has been there before.

Passed AUD, BEC & FAR. Lost credit for AUD & BEC once. Finally finished with REG as dessert. 15 times was the charm.

    AUD: 86
    FAR: 81
    BEC: 80
    REG: 76

In CA you have to do the one offered by CalCPA.

Join CalCPA first and save some money. Free membership the first year. No brainer. I dont think you need to join the AICPA yet.

They should be pretty quick with their approval. I think it only took a few days when I did it last year.

Congrats! Yeah, they arent sending you anything.

You need to do the Ethics (see link above).

You'll need to fill out some forms, get your fingers scanned, etc. This link will have all the information you need.

You have to fill out all of the required forms based on what type of candidate you are (A-F). The handbook should have all of the information you need, but yes, there are 4 or 5 forms that you'll need to fill out. You also have to have your boss sign off on your experience. He/she will fill that form out and send it in.

@MinaRick you should receive a letter in the mail from the CBA in about a week. The letter will instruct you on what you have to do as well.

    Congrats man! 15 days? That's a miracle!!

I asked CBA and they said in about 3 weeks from passing you get a congratulatory letter and instructions on the licensing process.

So, do I have to wait for the CBA's letter.. Or shall I start filling out the applications immediately !?

And I understand that to get licensed there are a lot of requirements.. But what about the certificate, am I getting it right after I am done with these forms and stuff !!?

Thank you guys very much :))

And yes, Cpham4, it is a miracle 🙂

@Mina- Start filling them out and sending them in now. Don't wait for the letter. Consider me your letter. “Congrats on passing. Fill out your paperwork and pay us more money.” ok, get on it. You won't get your certificate for another 8-12 weeks. You need to be licensed first.

What does “licensure pathway” mean !?

That's in the application for Certified Public Accountant License (Form 11A-5)

    SECTION V – PATHWAY CHOICE

Select a licensure pathway (check one)

Pathway 1 – with attest experience – requires 24 months of experience.

Pathway 1 – without attest experience – requires 24 months of experience.

Pathway 2 – with attest experience – requires 12 months of experience.

Pathway 2 – without attest experience – requires 12 months of experience

You have to select a pathway (1 or 2). If you have 150 units, select pathway 2. Then you decide if you have attest experience and someone can sign off on your attest experience.
