Hello, I did a quick search on this and was not able to find anything recent. Can anyone who has applied to sit in California comment on how long it takes for the application to be approved after you have submitted all your transcripts? I should hopefully be sending my transcripts out by the end of the week and was tentatively planning on taking my first exam towards the middle of November but was just wondering if that was feasible given the turnaround time of the app. Thank you.

The wait is 4-6 weeks from the last document they have received (transcript or application)

I was approved at the end of July and it took a little over 4 weeks.

Thanks for the quick reply. Based on when you took BEC and FAR in your sig, were you able to get the dates you wanted at the Prometric site given the fact that there wasn't much time between the end of July and August? Personally, my biggest fear is that I'm going to study for the exam but all the spots will be full for the date and location I want.

Applied online Jun 17th. Mailed check next day. Received Jun 20th. Application approved July 22nd. Applied with NASCAR same day. Payment coupon notice July 29th. Paid same day. Received NTS July 30th.

Find when you want to take the test and schedule it out. Then start studying. I scheduled BEC four weeks out and had no issues. Hear different locations are harder to get. So I guess YMMV.

    My personal timeline:

    10/19/2013–Ordered transcripts to be sent

11/02/2013–Sent $100 check and application to California Board of Accountancy

11/26/2013–Approved to sit for the CPA Exam as a California candidate

    12/22/2013–Received NTS

I recently created an Application Remittance Form to apply for a new NTS to retake a test or two, and I see this on the CBA's website:

NOTE: Due to the large volume of examination applications we are currently experiencing, processing times are presently beyond the typical 30 days. Processing time frames are at approximately six weeks. We ask for your patience as we process applications in the order they are received. Updated application information will be posted to client accounts as it becomes available.

    BEC: 79
    REG: 81
    FAR: 72 » 74 » 88

Study method: 100% watching videos, including solving problems covered therein; no books, paper, or pencils

There is no excuse for these delays. They should do away with any need for an application. Who are they trying to protect from taking the CPA exam?

I got my CMA approval and NTS within minutes, no application needed.

    From their email:

Once all items are received your file is considered complete and will be placed in line for review. Please allow approximately 4-6 weeks from the date the last document was received for the CBA to process your application.

If you have any additional questions regarding the CPA Exam please continue to contact the CBA Examination Unit by email at examinfo@cba.ca.gov or by telephone at (916) 561-1703.
