    Long story short is that I wanted to make a career change at 26 since my previous degree from UCSB was a useless liberal arts one. I decided to go back to get a second bachelors in accounting (I tried to get into grad school but I was too immature back when I was at UCSB and didn’t get the grades to get into grad school).

    My question is that the city where I’m going to school now to get my accounting degree is not where I want to stay and I want to move back to my hometown of San Diego once I graduate next May. First off, how should I go about the campus recruiting process so I can try to interview with the big 4 down there? Second, is how should I go about getting in contact with the firms that located down there as I’d like to interview with them too? All advice is helpful. Thanks!

    If your accounting grades were decent, you can apply to Golden Gate's graduate accounting program (MAAC or Tax). No GMAT bulls*it; worked well for me. I had decent undergraduate grades (3.43 cumulative) but believe they would be more open to accepting if you showed that you did well on your second BA (accounting).

    I once heard all Big 4 resume systems reject any application with less than a 3.5 cumulative GPA (maybe it was accounting GPA?). You would have more of a chance with a smaller firm, to be honest. Also, most Big 4 firms might not admit it, but there is a widespread rumor that they prefer very young associates (ie, straight out of college; 22 or 23). Again, smaller firms aren't as interested in age.

    Your univsersity, including UCSB, should have some sort of job system available to alumni. I applied to my alma mater after getting my MST and had a bunch of interviews. The MST really stuck out though. I also volunteered for low income individuals and did tax returns with United Way.
