A quick background on me, I’m an nontraditional student, in which I graduated with a BA in econ and a year later pursued accounting by taking night classes at my local state college. Currently, I have 3 classes left until I can sit for the CPA exam (tax, bus law, finance). As of now I’m currently working part-time as an accountant (read bookkeeper) for a small business, but it’s really not providing any new learning experience and no potential for growth.
My goal is to join a public accounting firm(national/regional) around Sept of 2015. That way I will (hopefully) have all my CPA exams passed and meet the 150 requirement for credits before I land a full-time job. However, with the hiring season around the corner and my state CPA board having plenty of “meet the firm” events within the upcoming months I’m thinking it might be too early to attend these events. Would I come off as a waste of time to these recruiters if I say I’m not ready for a job/internship until sept 2015? Or should I just tough it out and if they offer me an intern/job this season I should just suck it up and finish the school & cpa exam while full-time? Any advice would be appreciated.
