    Becker Question –

So I take FAR on Saturday and am in my final review stages. I skipped chapter 10 in order to better understand the more important topics with the intention of quickly looking over important things at the end. However, I now realize I won’t have time to look at chapter 10 in depth (as in reading the chapters, the lecture, questions, etc.) so I was wondering if anyone can give a REALLY brief rundown of important things. I know people talk about derivatives and partnerships as being important, but don’t think I could review them in time for example.

    AUD - 08/04/14 - 83
    FAR - 11/29/14 - 80
    REG - 02/26/15 - 89
    BEC - 05/30/15 - 86

    DONE!

I just took FAR the other day and I was surprised to have at least six or seven questions that came from chapter 10 including a sim too. At the absolute minimum, make sure you know fair value, contingencies, the different methods of handling new partners in a partnership (goodwill, bonus, etc), and definitely do the GAAP vs. IFRS questions. Definitely forget about the financial instruments section for sure.

    AUD - 89 07/02/14 (Becker practice exam: 74, 83)
    REG - 92 08/18/14 (Becker practice exam: 75, 84)
    BEC - 83 10/03/14 (Becker practice exam: 83, 70)
    FAR - 91 11/24/14 (Becker practice exams: 64, 77)

@Jcan's post is my worst nightmare.

IFRS (evenly covered throughout text), contingencies and FV…

all the other hoopla is just distracting information

I took far last month and was in the same situation as you. I ran out of time and couldn't finish chapter 10. I agree with jcan9703, you need to know fair value and for sure partnerships. The IFRS part in ch.10 is merely just a review of the IFRS vs Gaap differences that, like Nick said, has been evenly covered throughout the book, so you should already have that down.

I would not recommend skipping chapter 10. I had at least 6-7 mc on chapter 10 including a sim.

@jcan. I just read your post and it seems like we had the same exam.

    FAR - TBD
    REG - 90 Q4 2014

I think contingencies, trouble debt restructuring, quick skim of IFRS vs GAAP

    Done 08/2014-08/2015

Troubled debt restructuring. It's pretty much gain and loss with a few more details.
