Can you have easy questions in a hard testlet? I only had two questions flagged on the first testlet, so I thought my second testlet would be hard difficulty. But in the second testlet, I came across this question that was a gimmie.

Hard and Easy depends on if you know the topic that is being questioned. If you understand something, you will find it easy. That is the way I look at it. So hang in there, wait for the result.

What h0wdyus said. The AICPA surprisingly has a lot of information on this. “Hard” questions are often one or two sentence questions that other candidates often got wrong on pass tests(they were often pretest). Often the hard questions are the questions you hear candidates saying were barely mentioned in their review program. Being a little off topic is what makes them hard. I have had a few hard testlets and they almost never had complex calculations. Its just random stuff that is not the main point of that particular section. If you learn an off topic really well it will seem easy when you come across it on the hard exam. Hope that helps. Also easy pretest questions can be thrown into a hard exam, and since they don't count one can assume the AICPA can care less where they stick them.

    I say – Yes,

You can have a testlet that's overall hard, but a few easy questions mixed in.

IMO – It's a difficult testlet when, for the majority of the questions, you really were stumped with how to answer.

Yes- It even says this in the AICPA “How is the CPA Exam Scored?” Publication. They intentionally throw a few easy/medium questions in the hard testlets.

Yes, I found two or three questions that were easy. I call them “mental break” in an otherwise torturous testlet.

In my experience, when I first took FAR in Q3 2013, I felt all 3 testlets were just glimpses of hell sitting on my computer screen staring at me. I ended up with a 73. Then I retook the exam in Jan 2014. This time, I felt easier. Maybe, because I was better prepared. Knocked it out of the ball park with a score of 93. No doubt, AICPA has its own policies of grading the testlets. But it all boils down to how well one has prepared for the exam.
