Hi – I have my bachelors from Canada (Alberta) and wanted to pursue my CPA. Anybody in the same boat as me?

    – was looking at applying to either Montana or Colorado. Any other suggestions?

    – As for review materials, should I just sign up for Becker? I see others recommend Wiley as well. I think I would need something really comprehensive?

Also, can anyone share how your experience was flying into a city and writing the exams ie. Did you show up a few days prior or stay later? Look for a seat sale to decide where you wrote ;)?

Random questions and thoughts, I know but I just really wanted to know that I’m not nuts to go down this road 🙂

@SVSV – Wow that is so disappointing. They don't seem very organized at NIES. If they don't have my transcripts done in the 29 business days (which is a ridiculous amount of time) I will be very mad. I had to keep calling them and getting someone to hunt down my transcripts that I had sent there weeks ago. All the transcripts were there for over two weeks, in different parts of the building, and only one of my three transcripts in my file. My evaluation could have been started or at least put in the processing order almost two weeks before they said it was ready to evaluate.

I want to start a review course, and start booking test times, but I can't until my transcripts are evaluated, in case I need more courses to sit for the exam. I am trying to exercise patience, but I really want to get moving in this direction quickly.

Update: my transcripts were finally evaluated. Everything looks good, so I applied to CPA Central for a NTS. Hopefully that happens quicker than the foreign evaluation. I am going to tackle FAR first. This weekend I am going through the free trials of Roger and Gleim. I am leaning towards Roger, but I will take the weekend to decide and then purchase a review package. Moving forward and feeling good!

Hopefully I can book FAR for the end of May. I can always use a different prometric site if there is no available appointments by the time I get an NTS.

Does anyone have an opinion on if I need a supplemental material to go with my review package or should I use only my review package for the first exam to see if it is enough?

    Also, opinions: Roger or Gleim?

I supplemented Roger with the NINJA 10pt combo. That got me all of the NINJA MCQs and NINJA Audio. I used the audio all of the time while commuting. My experience was that the NINJA MCQs were way better than Roger. That could have changed by now. I have no opinion on Gleim. Roger's energy is what got me through the lessons. Good Luck!

Thanks for the tips Peterman. I never realized Ninja 10 point combo had all that in it. It is a standalone review package. Maybe I would go for just the MCQ and Audio to supplement. Or maybe I should just use Ninja 10 Point as the review package as it is cheaper….so many choices lol…

Well I got my transcripts evaluated and am now waiting for my NTS. I too will be tackling FAR first.
I bought Wiley. I'm not sure if I'm not utilizing it correctlyor I need to review way more than I think I need to? I find the videos and study text almost too brief. I ended up ordering the self study textbook to supplement it. I also will be tweaking it to follow the NINJA plan of watching all the videos first rather than going section by section.

@SVSV. I am glad that your transcripts were evaluated! I guess you decided against Gleim? So did I. First lecture of the trial was so slow and boring lol.

I chose Roger for my review package. I also purchased Ninja MCQ and Notes. I will also use the Ninja method of lectures before MCQ, unless there is in chapter or lecture problems, which I will do throughout. I am not a good note taker, so I think rewriting Ninja Notes will help me a lot. I read a lot of people saying Ninja MCQ will better prepare you than Roger's MCQ, so I think I am ready!!

Just wanted to check in and let you both know that I passed all 4 on first go, with 2 exams within a couple of days of each other.

I highly recommend becker. Expensive, but effective.

    It's possible! Good luck guys.

Awesome job ecg19! It must feel great to be done! Two at a time seems so crazy to me, but I might have to try it after FAR. Good luck out there, your future starts now!

Super late on this but @ecg19, great job! Thanks for the inspiration and motivation 🙂

That being said….I'm slowly dying going through FAR. Part of me is ok with picking this module first since it has SO much info but in the same vein, IT HAS SO MUCH INFO! I was the middle of studying and felt I wasn't progressing much on my own so I ended up buying the virtual class from Wiley. I like the fact it gives me some structure to power through the modules. My exam is mid Aug and the clock is ticking!

    Duskfall – I hope you're surviving!

Hey SVSV! I am surviving studying FAR…but I am not sure if I will pass on the first attempt. If not, I will move on and take it again after. The amount of material is overwhelming. Where are you taking your test in August? I am taking all of mine in Helena, Montana.

I'm not sure what to expect at the exam but I'm trying to get through all the material and then just do MCQs for a few weeks. I'm hoping something clicks in at some point bc right now everything is a fog.
I'm planning to write all of mine in Vegas for now. I like the fact it's a direct flight and it's short. I couldn't imagine driving that long for a test, lol!

Considering the grading, Las Vegas seems like an appropriate place to take the exam.

New forum looks nice. Since my update wasn't transferred, I will do this again. I passed FAR! I used Roger, Roger Cram, Ninja MCQ, Ninja Book and Ninja Notes. I was really surprised with my passing grade! I write BEC on August 23rd, not feeling great about it yet. Have to keep cramming frantically!

    @SVSV
    – How are you doing? Did you write FAR yet?
