Any advice would be greatly appreciated…I have taken REG quite a few times now with multiple scores of 73, but my most recent score regressed…with a 68 🙁 (when I actually thought I did better than in the past). I have used Becker self study all along, but I definitely feel their simulations for REG are not preparing me for the exam and am beginning to think I need a new plan for REG. I have been carefully researching my review options since my software is expiring/outdated and am strongly looking into using the 10 point package and/or other review software. The main decision I can’t make is whether to:

-buy the 2013 Becker software for REG in addition to the 10 pt package

-attempt again with Becker alone since I will buy the updated 2013 software

    or…

    – try to use only the 10 pt package

Any advice would be greatly appreciated since I need to make a decision fast and get this studying going again!

In my opinion, the best way to prepare for SIMs is not by practicing a crazy amount of them, but by instead understanding the material better. Since you never know what topic your SIMs will be on, practicing a huge number of SIMs on topics you may never see seems to be like a bit of a waste of time. Just my 2 cents.

Using the 10 pt combo in tandem with a review course is the best option, but people have used it exclusively and passed (or so they've said in e-mails).

If you go the “10 pt only” route – you will need to make sure you really work a lot of MCQs.

    @nofunbecker-

I used Becker for FAR when I scored back to back 68's. I am not a huge fan of Becker, personally. I used Becker, Ninja FAR notes and GLEIM in tandem and increased my score 6 points. I like GLEIM because you can to progress tests by mixing/matching any chapter (and sub-chapter) material you want. The questions don't come at you in order of the material, like Beckers do. I like this feature, as it is more true to exam time. The ninja notes are a nice way to change up your usual study routine too. Good luck!!

    B 71, 74, 84*
    A 74, 72, 69, 74, 87*
    R 80* ... lost credit... 82* done forever!!!
    F 68, 68, 74, 78*

Yep, I've gotten five 74's! Wah!

I am in a similar boat… took REG three times in 2012 and failed all three (used Becker self study every time) – highest I could manage was a 69. My credits will start expiring this summer so I really want to pass REG the fourth time. I just started studying again this past week… decided to stick with Becker 2012 because Becker's website says the exam will not change at least until this summer. I am supplementing that with NINJA notes + Wiley Test bank (the 10 point combo) for the first time. We will see how well this works, but I think this should be a good option. Good luck!

@dodgerdawg: Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it and will work on understanding the material better. 🙂

@Jeff: Thank you for the advice as well. I have the 2012 Wiley book that I received for Christmas last year (2011) and am thinking about using that along with the 10 point package. Would you consider this to be a review program or would more be needed…i.e. Yaeger software…Also, do you think I should purchase the 2013 Wiley book if I decide to go that route?

@Jacquelyn: I was looking at Gleim too and seemed to like it better than CPA Excel…that's great to hear about the difference in how questions are given, I will definitely consider it! Good Luck to you, too! I definitely appreciate and need the luck 😉

@cpaLI: Thanks for the luck too, Good luck to you! Hopefully we can both get REG out of the way!! 🙂
