    Hello,

This is my first post, and I hope that you guys can give me some good advice. I’m studying for my first exam (The Beast Incarnate: FAR) and I’m about a month in. I’m going to sit for the exam on Feb. 26th…I’ve been studying constantly since the day after Christmas using the NINJA method as best as I can. Using Roger CPA Review, NINJA MCQ/Flashcards/Audio, I would say that I’ve put in about 85 or so hrs in studying. Here’s the problem…

    …..I don’t feel like I’m retaining anything!

After 1200 question attempts, my average score in NINJA MCQ is 53% and my trending score is 57%…most of the calculation questions just stump me and I’ve been trying to take hella notes all throughout. I decided to ask for your guidance because I feel like I’m not seeing any progress. My scores show this. What should I do?

    FAR - 75 (2/25/16)
    AUD - 80 (4/8/16)
    REG - 80 (6/10/16)
    BEC - 79 (7/19/16)

When you were in high school and college, how did you learn best? For me, in school I always made better grades if I read the textbook, took notes while reading, and made flash cards. As I study for the CPA, I follow the same methods.

Think about your preferred learning methods, and stick with that! You haven't changed since college, so study methods that worked then will work now too. Good luck!

    AUD: 83 October 2015
    REG: 81 January 2016
    BEC: 83 February 2016

@theunexperienced I'm so glad you asked this question! I'm taking FAR on the 22nd and I feel the same way. My trending score is even lower which just makes me worried. God knows I'm trying everything!

    **God, please give me strength!!**

    Using NINJA exclusively. 🙂

    FAR - 2/22/16 (First Attempt)
AUD,BEC,REG = First attempt back in 2012-straight horrible...
I WILL BE A CPA BY THE END OF 2016!

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm taking FAR on 2/29 and just started doing Ninja MCQ yesterday. I'm using Roger and also have Ninja notes/flashcards and audio that I listen to on my commute. I went with the Ninja method as well and only did a few mcq in the beginning and stopped around Section 10 so I could have more time to do them later on. Not sure if you watched all the Roger videos, but if you did and already attempted 1200 mcq then you must have studied way more than 85 hours. I've been logging my hours and I'm around 87 with only like 350 mcq attempted.

I was never the best note taker in school, but since a lot of people on here swear by it I decided to give it a try. I probably wrote about 120 pages of notes and still feel like I don't remember anything lol. I have a good understanding of the concepts, but some of the computational problems are tough for me as well. I like Ninja's explanations on wrong answers much better than Roger's so hopefully they will help me reinforce everything as I go through them.

@Tripin93 High school/college study habits were bad. I just basically crammed a night or two before by just writing a bunch of problems. I basically sucked everything up in my short term memory and barfed it on the page (it worked pretty well actually). I know this is a whole different animal!

    FAR - 75 (2/25/16)
    AUD - 80 (4/8/16)
