    Hi,

Let me introduce myself first. I graduated from one of the nation’s top 100 university around 3 years ago. I was graduated as accounting major, but due to my father’s medical emergency, I had to manage his small company right after graduation until recently. However, I’ve decided continuing his business is not my passage. I was a manager who sometimes had to do sales role, little bit of accounting (including using Quickbooks (which I learned by myself) & A/R), website management, inventory management, and other managerial roles.

So, I started studying for CPA since few months ago to continue on with my journey to CPA. However, the only item I can put in my resume is my father’s business.

I had no internship experience during my college years. I was a knockoff during my 1st and 2nd year during college and I worked my butt off to bring my GPA from near-2.0 to 3.1 during last two years. I achieved a recognition called “Chancellor’s list” once and I’m hoping that recruiters would see this rising trend of GPA as a good thing. But that kept me from looking for internship opportunity…

Also, I need to mention that after my decision, my father decided to close the company as well. His injury and age made it difficult to continue on by himself.

    My questions are:

    1. How will recruiters view my experience as working for my father’s company?

    2. Should I hide the fact that my father had small company? (with less than 30 employee)

    3. I’m not foreign student, but I’m not a great writer. As you may have noticed, my grammar is not perfect. Will this be a problem if I want to work as an accountant or an auditor?

    4. I’m planning to visit a job fair at my college. PWC is among the listed participants. Any advice to stand out to them? I live in Los Angeles county FYI.

    5. My father’s company is in the process of liquidation. Will that be a problem for recruiters to validate my resume?

    6. I want to apply as an intern first because I did not have good professional exposure to accounting job while I was working. Do you think this is a bad idea?

Thank you in advanced for your time reading this.. My goal is to finish CPA exam this year and look for job next year. But finding job is more stressing than passing the exam.. Your advice will be really helpful..Thank you.
