I am 35 with over 8 years of experience in commercial banking (lending/underwriting/credit analysis) and 2.5 years in factoring (Asset Based Lending). I am entertaining an idea of chaning my career out of lending side of banking. I went to an university that is ranked top 25 in US and studied in economics (top 15). I have taken up to intermediate accounting while I was in school, and I am taking a tax course at local community college. Then, I realized I would just go for CPA (need to take two more courses to sit for the exam). What career options would I have with my background and CPA? I am making 6 digit but I am willing to take some pay-cut if the new position have better future.

If you're making six figures, you're doing well. Are you saying there is no better future in your current career?

    Something doesn't fit here.

Yeah. Making 6 figures I don't see any incentive in getting CPA license. You'll need 1-2 years of experience under an active CPA (in most states) and that would probably mean a huge pay cut IF you can even find someone who would hire you with your broad experience and salary!

Although, I guess with a CPA license you could become a CFO or something but you'd have to do your own research on that one or maybe someone else can give you a better advice on here. I'm still on my way to the 6 figures salary! 🙂

    FAR: 81 (May 2013)
    BEC: 81 (July 2013)
    REG: 83 (August 2013)
    AUD: 82 (November 2013)
    California CPA since 1/30/14
