CIA anyone?

I’m in a IA dept and wanted to see if anyone had opinions or thoughts on completing the CIA after the CPA. Specifically, 1) how difficult (number of hours) is the exam after completing a CPA, 2) is there any benefit since even in IA the CPA seems to carry more weight, and 3) what study materials did you use?

    Thanks!

A friend of mine in IA for a publicly traded corporation recieved her CIA and said it was a cakewalk compared to the CPA. Not sure how much weight it carries but the more acronyms behind your name, the better.

    @Valerie_Jo:

Surely the Central Intelligence Agency needs Certified Internal Auditors.

OMG- I am thinking about doing it also but I am totally taking the rest of the year off if I find out that I passed Audit (last exam). I do not even want to think about it yet!

I have read that in comparison to the CPA- much, much easier and I heard Gleim is good.

I totally thought you meant Central Intelligence Agency lol

But that sounds like something very good to look into. Doing a bit of research…

Hmm says must “obtain a minimum of 24 months of internal auditing experience or its equivalent. A Masters degree can substitute for 12 of the required 24 months.”.

Are you working as an auditor?

I'm in internal audit and I plan on doing the CFA once I finish the CPA. Unless you want to be in IA forever, I wouldn't do it. If you do, then definitely take it.

@MsAvi77 Yeah I'm working in an IA department for about a year so with me MBA I'll be good to go to qualify

@amanda_88 im in a financial services firm so i've thought a about the CFA route. What do you plan to do with a CFA being in internal audit?

The plan is to become the “fraud expert” within our IA group- I just drafted our first (20 page) Fraud Risk Assessment and we have operations in various countries that are inherently more prone to fraud, so I will go along on all the fraud investigations, when they occur.

I'm assuming that you mean CFE instead of CFA then??

The CIA exam is much easier than the CPA. I passed part one with about 20 study hours. On to part 2…

    AUD - 84
    BEC - 84
    FAR - 77
    REG - 75
    So glad to be done!

    Part 2 - Passed
    Part 3 - Passed

I'm assuming she meant CFE as well. The CFA won't really add value to fraud assessments unless they involve complex security valuations.

The CFF is a pretty respectable credential. You need CPA, 1000 hours in litigation consulting, and 75 CPE hours that meet the specs. I should hopefully be wrapping that one up along with the ABV this winter. Provided I pass this last section. I meet all the requirements for both except this CPA thing.

I've considered the CFE, but have heard that it adds little value to clients in that a Target security guard could pass the exam. I'll consider it if they tighten up the ranks. I'm not sure I feel like tossing $550 at something that won't add too much value.

    Back on topic.

    I wouldn't bother with a CIA after a CPA.

It's like getting another bachelors in math when you have a PhD.

    In math.
