    Hello everyone,

I’m in the unfortunate position of needing 30 credit hours in order to get certified. Does anyone have any suggestions about the quickest and most flexible way to get the credit? I have a full time job, so I cannot go back to school full time. Someone told me about CLEP testing. Has anyone ever tried this?

I suggest you check with your state board. Education requirements vary from state to state and no one wants to give you incorrect information. Louisiana let me use about 30 hours of CLEP credit, none of them were accounting, just IT and Marketing.

Also CLEP credit needs to be transferred to a college or university that takes it before it counts – that's usually the case. Don't just take the CLEP test and expect to have it count without a college granting credit.

You'll likely have to go back to school but 2-3 classes per semester is manageable.

I was wrong about the 30 CLEP hours. When I read bobkorz's post I kind of freaked out because no one had to approve the courses for credit. I don't have 30 CLEP hours. I have 5 course that I challenged. I don't know if all schools do this or not, but we could challenge the class. I had to pay a $10 fee and take the midterm and final. As long as your score was above 75% you got credit for the course. It was a lot cheaper than taking the classes. I challenged IT 1210, 2010, 3150 and Marketing 3050 and 3060. There is a HUGE difference between a challenged course and CLEP credit. Thanks Bob!

I have not tried using CLEP credit for that many hours. However, I was going to be 2 credits short when I graduated this past May so over my winter break last year I studied for and took an American Government CLEP test. That gave me 3 credits. My experience is that the board will accept CLEP credits as long as you took actual classes at the same school that accepted the CLEP credits. For my 150 hours, 9 of them were CLEP credits.

I think this is a viable option for a few credits, but I'm not sure how good it would be for 30 hours.

    As per Colorado board:

“CLEP credit is acceptable if you can provide an official transcript from a regionally accredited institution that shows you have been given credit for the course(s).”

What does it mean “if you can provide an official transcript from a regionally accredited institution”

I'm not familiar with CLEP test, isn't a test which I'll take and after pass I'll get exam results and submit them for the board.

Or I have to do additional process.

    FAR 83

    BEC 82

    AUD 86

    REG 75

You have to be enrolled in a college, pass the CLEP exam, and have that college award you the credits for the class. You can't submit your CLEP results directly to the board.

Thanks AnitaNC for reply. But I graduated 10 years back, do you mean that I can register in any college just to make them issue a transcript for me

hell I needed 35 credits and just took real estate classes online at the community college for 3 terms. Real waste of time and money. Nice requirement, AICPA.
