I am a Colorado candidate. Passed all the exams, 2 courses shy of education credit.

I work in industry (for 10 years) and my supervisor is a CPA. He is licensed in Ohio. I want him to sign off for my experience hours, BUT Ohio has him listed as “not practicing public accounting.” So… on my license verification form, Ohio checked “No”. Has this happened to anyone else?? Is there a way around this?

Colorado has very weird requirements, and I know they are changing this summer, with regard to both education and the work experience. It is my understanding that the work experience in CO generally has to be in public accounting, not industry, in which case the supervising CPA would also be in public accounting. But there are probably exceptions made if the board determines that your experience is sufficient because there are always cases where a person may not originally have intended to be a CPA, so they didn't set out to meet specific requirements, but they still have valid work experience. You would just need to contact them and ask.

Also, until the rules change (or if you're grandfathered in, presumably), you can also forgo the work experience requirement and complete additional coursework instead.
