Over the past couple of months I’ve really started to depend on coffee much more than in past when I’ve taken the test. Is anyone a regular coffee drinker; and how do you handle taking the exam? Do you drink any before the exam? Thanks for the input in advance.

Hello fellow coffee drinker! On exams days I usually get the 12noon spot. So I just have my regular coffee dose that I do every morning that morning before. I cut myself off couple hours before so I don't have to use the restroom while taking the exam. Seems to have worked for me. As for my normal coffee does… ashamed but about 4 cups every morning betwee 5AM and 9AM. :-/

i think i had so much caffeine in last 7-8 months that there is too much caffeine in my blood level.. prolly i take 5-6 cups per day + one red bull in the evening ..

usually get the early morning spot, so no caffeine during exam time

Yes to caffeine and unhealthy life before CPA

AND Quitting caffeine all together after CPA!

@Nam – One day I did 6 cups on a Monday I couldnt sit still in our staff meeting. My boss was laughing at me! I cant do it in the evenings, I'd be up all night.

I'd like to get down to 2 cups a day after haha. I liked coffee before. I don't drink soda at all.

I'm dependent on caffeine at this point. 20oz of coffee in the morning. 1-2 cans of soda throughout the day, and a latte, Red Bull, or Mountain Dew at night. MAYBE some hot tea.

There is no way I would try to take an exam without coffee in my system.

I usually get a small latte with an extra shot 1.5 hours before my exam. Then I sip on a red bull until it's test taking time.

Nam – you and I both will be having caffeine withdrawals after the exam! I'm going to quit too.

make sure to time your coffee right on exam day — if you need to get up and use the restroom between sections, it still eats away at your time #truestory

I've been drinking coffee like there is no tomorrow since I started studying for this exam back in 2011. Its ridiculous and I must say that there's no ending to this routine. I tried the 5 hour energy once and what a huge mistake…I couldnt go to sleep until 2 in the morning. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with a lil caffeine. I love it.

I've always been a coffee and 5 hr energy guy and i'm definitely on the bandwagon for exam purposes. It allows you to stay focused when you're tired late at night.

At this point, I'm not worried about my health. I'm just concerned about passing this exam.

bahahaaha!!! Who needs health when you can get your CPA?

@supervisor – I tried 5hr too, and felt so freaking high. Not good.

Has anyone seen the post about “the good morning pill” or something like that?

I need to find it… I wonder if anyone has tried it?

I'm a tea person. If I drink coffee, it is usually just 2 cups on the weekends. I think it really depends on how much coffee you can handle without getting jittery and wired. I have to eat a good breakfast (usually eggs, toast, and fruit) with coffee because I can get shaky/really hungry. I recommend drinking lots of water if you are a heavy coffee-drinker. Caffeine is the devil.

Definitely with you on the water. I drink about two liters a day, it helps with the dry eyes from staring at screens and books all day.

By 10am everyday I've usually consumed a pot of coffee by myself! After lunch I switch to diet coke and usually drink 3-4 by dinner time. I'm just hoping my heart doesn't explode one day but at this point the way I see it is that CPA exam prep time isn't necessarily the best time to try and abandon my vices!

    Good luck everyone!!!!!!!

I am trying to reduce my coffee intake, great timing i know! But i usually have my regular cup, and then go to the rest room right before I sign in. I also allow my self one break usually before the sims to use the rest room if i need it. If i don't have the coffee i am not sure i could make it through the exam, but i also need to pee. Sorry the diaper theory never appealed to me.

Just thought I'd assuage the guilt of my fellow coffee drinkers and point out that recent research is showing that caffeine is not necessarily bad for you. In fact, it has some significant health benefits. I enjoy 1-2 cups per morning on work days, and I have no intention of ever quitting.
