I was hoping to get some help regarding the application process for Colorado. I am currently waiting to find out if I passed my last section (AUD). I took the test on May 30th. I figured out today, after July 1st my education will not meet the necessary requirements.

Does anyone know the process for getting the ethics exam for Colorado? How long does it take?

If I passed I need to get my application in before the end of the month. I am trying to decide if I should start the process now or wait until Tuesday. I don’t want to jinx myself.

Your application has to be in by June 15th for you to be grandfathered in so I would go take the Ethics exam immediately. I'm not sure if it is graded there or not, but if you have to wait for the score you probably won't make it. I would round up everything you need for the application while you wait. Hope you make it!

I also live in Colorado and despite my 171 credit hours I will need two classes to be able to get licensed because I won't take my last test (hopefully) until July 14.

Another Coloradoan here trying to make it. You have to submit your completed application by 6/15 to be grandfathered in. They are very clear on this. I called AICPA and they told me there is an online version of the ethics exam. You can supposedly just buy the review online, study and take the test at home, and keep retaking the test until you pass with a 90%. They said it's about a 5-6 hour class. I was going to do it Tuesday IF I pass, as applications have to be in by the following Monday. Please let me know if anyone knows anything differently about ethics.

I am having a very hard time locating all the forms (experience, licensure verification form, etc.) – can anyone please send me a link if you have one handy? I was told to go the CO's licensing site but could still not find the right forms. Thanks.

Four attempts is the suggested max # of attempts but supposedly it will let you keep retaking it until you pass. I just called the AICPA to confirm everything and they did confirm all this.

I'm with you. If I find out I passed Tuesday, I will take the day to take ethics. If I find out I failed (and you did as well), I will join you under that rock. Hopefully we will both be celebrating!

I definitely agree. It is nice to know I am not the only one experiencing this but I wouldn't wish this on anyone either. I thought I had the worst behind me (hopefully)

Sounds like I might take some PTO on Tuesday to knock out the ethics test.

Thanks for the form. It says if my supervisor was licensed in CO, I don't have to fill it out. Well, then, how do they know I have experience?

Your help is much appreciated. I don't know whether you've tried to call CO licensing, but I usually get a voicemail, and if I email them, it takes several days to hear back, and the responses are vague.

Out of curiosity, do you mind saying where you are? I live just southwest of 470 and I25 and work at I25 and Orchard.

O I didn't notice that. My experience was in Missouri. I am not sure how they know if you are in Colorado.

I just called (866) 350-0017. After going through the automated answering service I was finally able to talk someone. She was very helpful. Once you create the online application there will be links on the left side of the screen for all the documents you need to complete. You will not need the Employers Verification Form since your employer is licensed in Colorado.

Thanks, that helps VERY much. So you JUST found out you wouldn't qualify after 7/1? Wow. Lucky you got all your tests done in time! I found out in January and scrambled to get BEC done so I could focus on REG, knowing I only had the one shot at it.

Ah, got it. You still need a Certificate of Experience no matter what, but if your supervisor is licensed in CO, you don't need the Employers Licensure Verification Form; you can print out their license info from the website.

I am part lucky and part oblivious. I took Reg in March. I signed up in February to get my notice for Auditing. I saw the notice when I logged in regarding the changes but thought I was fine since I have 150 hours. I didn't realize the specific class requirements. I only took one auditing class. I also don't think I have enough advanced accounting classes for Colorado.

I was going to wait until July to take Auditing again (failed in October) but thought I might be able to knock it out in May and enjoy the rest of my summer. I am SO glad I didn't wait until July.

My boss makes fun of me for reading this blog but I got on there today to see what everyone was saying about the score release and I saw your note about everything being lost. I then did more research and went into panic mode.

I am still not understanding the everything is lost comment? You don't lose the exams you have passed just because you don't meet the educational requirements to be certified.

I've changed my signature since talking to NASBA and getting pretty much the best news ever. I can still apply to a different state (one of the few without the 150 hour requirement). Obviously, this is not ideal, but they said, depending on the state, you may be able to perform attest services in CO with an out of state license. The most important thing, especially since I'm hoping to avoid going back into public (and do not wish to be in auditing), is that I can still call myself a CPA if this happens, just not a Colorado CPA. I had asked this question on the forum, but no one dared answer it (and I don't blame them).

Awilson, since your CPA was out of state, you will need both the Certificate of Experience and Employers Licensure Verification Form.

I thought you had to have a valid driver's license and an in-state address to apply for certification? Maybe that's not true for all states? Either way you can pass the CPA Exam in Colorado, you just won't be able to be certified here without the 150 hours.

That is a relief! I am feeling much better that there is at least hope. I am originally from Missouri so I was thinking I could move back there to get my license. I really don't want to move back. I love the mountains. Hopefully next week goes well for all of us!
