Compensation/Promotion Structure within the Big 4

I have offers with 3 of the big four and I began to notice there were some differences in the promotion structure. My question is how do the titles/promotions affect your compensation.

    For instance…

PwC promotes to senior after your 3rd year as does KPMG. EY promotes after the second year. I’m aware eligibility for performance bonuses are not until you are senior. With that said it would seem one would have an advantage at EY in terms of accelerating their compensation.

Does anyone have an insight or feedback?

I always thought it was more just years put into the firm so I didn’t consider this an issue in determining which offer to accept. With the information I have now, it seems that might not be the case and that responsibilities/compensation are affected by title not years.

    pwc is 2 years…..

There are always exceptions. I know 2 people who are at EY who took 3 years.

    Your ratings affect compensation.

If you ‘meet expectations' and do what is expected, you'll be promoted up to the Senior Manager level provided you have your CPA.

    At EY:

    Staff 1

    Staff 2

Senior 1 (performance based compensation begins)

    Senior 2

    Senior 3

    Manager 1

    Manager 2

    Manager 3

    Senior Manager (indefinitely)

@4dsmartorangeneg1g – where is PwC still 2? I believe it was a recent change but at least in the market I'm in (midwest US) people there are well aware that it has changed to 3.

    REG - 87 (Becker)
    AUD - 96 (Becker & Ninja MCQs)
FAR - 85 (Becker, Ninja MCQs, Audio and Blitz)
BEC - Last one! Waiting on score release 11/24!

I can confirm PwC is 3 years for audit. They have confirmed this. I am still waiting to find out when the performance based bonuses kick in for them….question I forgot to ask. KPMG also changed theirs to 3 but they are working on allowing early promotion to 3 years (that's what they told me anyway). KPMG is still 5 to Manager though.
