Complex Tax Returns

    Hi everyone,

I am looking at applying for a Tax Manager position in top 100 accounting firm preferably the big 4. Most of them state under the job requirements for a Tax Manager state that the candidate would complete and or review complex tax returns. If any of you have worked in a big accounting firm, what do they consider a complex tax return? Also, on average what is the revenue and assets total for these companies that are handled by these larger accounting firms?

I currently work for a small company and we do a lot of tax returns for partnerships and corporations but not sure if those would be considered complex for some of these larger companies.

Do you work on provisions? Are you preparing or reviewing pro formas? Multiple states? International? How many people work under you?

    Hi bigfourexpert,

Lately I have started working with provisions. I have reviewed and prepared pro formas. We currently work with about 25 different states and I have on average 5 people working under me but it depends on the client. I have some international experience but not a whole lot.

Sounds like you could have the experience. You'd just have to highlight certain clients and certain situations you've dealt with, as well as all the blah blah about managing your team. I wouldn't take it as an insult if they tried to bring you in somewhere at a senior level just to see how you do before giving you manager. Never know though!

I am definitively not taking it as an insult, I appreciate your time and your feedback. Are you currently working in a tax department of a big 4 accounting firm? If you are what position and what your responsibilities are if you don't mind letting me know? Thank you again for your time and feedback.
