I am sure someone have asked this question before, but does it cost to cancel an exam or would it cost to get a new nts beyond the normal test fee?

    It begins with a 75

I don't think it costs to cancel – your NTS should just expire (if you choose not to take the exam) and you'll have to pay for a new one. I'm not sure what your situation is, but it might be worth it to just sit, see what happens and then retake if you have to….

I think it depends on your time frame. I canceled with over 5 days notice and had to pay 35 bucks. Less than 5 days is just under $90. I'm not sure when you cut it within a day or two but at some point you lose all your fees and must repay for the exam. If you have over 30 days before your exam is scheduled then it doesn't cost anything. That's my experience anyway.

    Why pay to cancel it?

You can just not show up and just be out the price of the NTS (instead of the price of the NTS + the price to cancel)

@ThePhoenix – Are you talking about fees for canceling, or fees for rescheduling? Your description sounds like rescheduling fees in my state to a T – but I can't imagine NASBA charging to cancel an NTS. Otherwise, as @005 said, if you're going to choose not to sit, just schedule and don't show up.

    “RESCHEDULE / CANCEL POLICY

After you have made an appointment for an examination section you may find it necessary to change or cancel an appointment. Be aware that you may be required to pay a reschedule fee or forfeit your examination fees, depending on when you notify Prometric of the change or cancellation. Changes made 5 to 30 days prior to your appointment will be assessed a $35 fee. Changes made less than 5 days prior will be assessed $88.20. Note: Any changes made 24 hours or less prior to your appointment will forfeit your fees and you will need to reapply to your board of accountancy or its designated agency. Please see your Candidate Bulletin for more information.”

I just went by this when I had to cancel. I canceled and rescheduled at a later time and had to pay $35 when I canceled. I didn't want to risk just not showing up (I would be worried about losing the entire exam fee or something) as I am not privy to all the ins and outs of testing policies. The above is from my appointment confirmation so that's what I followed.

Side note: I only pushed my exam a couple weeks and I still had tons of time on my NTS before expiration so I wasn't planning to get a new NTS when I canceled and subsequently rescheduled, if that makes sense.

Speaking of NTS, I have mine for BEC and it expires at the end of December. I am taking my test next Saturday, the 19th. If I do not pass, do I need to reapply for that section or is the NTS still valid?

2014CPAHopeful, you would need a new NTS.

@005 — Thanks! I failed Audit once a few years ago and reapplied in a different testing window.

When can you apply for an additional NTS? For example, I applied in April for REG and FAR, once

I have taken both tests can I apply for an NTS for BEC and AUD? Or can I apply now for AUD and BEC? Do i have to wait until the original NTS expires in Oct? Just curious how it works with additional NTS's, I only have experience with the one.

    REG - 86
    FAR - 74,
    BEC - 72,
    AUD -73,

@JMOR yes you may. You can apply to all 4 at once if you'd like.

However, (and someone correct me if I'm wrong), you're only allowed to apply to one NTS category per testing window. (so one FAR, AUD, REG, and BEC) Once you apply to an NTS , you cannot re-apply to the same NTS if:

    – it's within the same testing window, regardless if exam taken or not

    – if NTS is already open (haven't taken exam)

    AUD - ✔
    FAR - 11/29/14
