Could I Successfully Study by only doing MCQ's?

I have the AUD test coming on 11/30 and i’m only maybe 15% done with the material. I am only doing MCQ’s. The ones I get right the first time, I don’t look at. The ones I get wrong, I flag. After doing all MCQ’s I go through all the wrong ones and do those until I get them all right. Only then do I move on to the next topic.

Been super busy as a full time worker and student who just had midterms (smh) so i’m in a panic and rush to get through everything. I have 5 days left, 2 of which I am completely free to study. I’m just wondering, assuming i get through all MCQ’s with that process, would it be enough? What do you guys think?

    I’m using Roger CPA Review.

People have passed studying only MCQs. Is it the most adviseable, safest plan? Heck no. Can it be done? Sometimes yes. If you're fairly comfortable with the audit concepts from an audit class at some point in the hopefully-not-too-distant-past, that will definitely help you.

@Lilla is right. I have recently passed two parts of the CIA exam by just working a couple MCQs.. Can you pull the same stunt with the CPA exams? Maybe AUD and BEC. The others really need a deep understanding of the concepts. But half a loaf is better than none. If you can't reschedule, get out of this site and start chucking away at the MCQs, then report your experience after d-day lol

It has been done before. People have done it in 2 weeks before, albeit studying 8 hours a day.

However, my brain hurts after a certain amount of studying and it needs a mental rest to prepare for the next day of study. You should try and attempt it anyway if your NTS is going to expire.

I did this my very first CPA exam ever. It was for FAR. I ended up with a 73. I killed it on the MCQs and sucked on the SIMs. Obviously, with the SIMs, you have to apply the knowledge you learned in a different way. Let's say I regretted not spending a little time reading about all those tiny sections in FAR. Also, if I had known anything about the SIMs and that I could use the authoritative literature on other SIMs besides the research question I would have passed with flying colors.

You are far better skimming all the material in the book in two days and then spending the other two pumping out MCQs. Oh and make sure you know how to do journal entries front and back.

@FIFO – Well, i'm taking AUD in a few days so there are no JE's. But i will practice some sims. It's tough finding the time to really study.
@the Last Coffee – My brain will have to endure.
    @Mystical – I need some of that luck/skills
@Lilla – You are probably right but I need to try. I'd rather fail and try again next quarter than just to postpone.

I passed REG and BEC with just MCQs, 11 days of prep while also juggling work, pregnancy, and two kids under 5. It is doable, but my scores aren't giving me a ton of wiggle room. I'm pretty sure I passed AUD last week, but that is TBD. I start with chapter 1 of the books (I've been using Wiley or Bisk) and I go straight to MCQs. I do a page of them, then check my answers. If my answer is right, I move on to the next page, if my answer is wrong, I write down the correct answer (with explanation so I'm getting the concepts). I do as much of this as I possibly can, but inevitably run out of time halfway through the book because I have to move on to the practice exam. The Sunday before the actual exam I take the practice test and determine which chapters are my weakest. Then the nights leading up to the exam (I work during the day), I do MCQs on those chapters. If my weak chapters are ones on which I've already done all the MCQs, then I study my notes and work through reading the chapter if necessary. On exam day (or the night before if it's a morning exam), I go through all my notes, which are usually upwards of 30 pages, maybe more. I've been scheduling exams on Fridays, so essentially I do MCQs by chapter for 6 days. I do the practice exam 6 days before the actual exam and give myself about 10 to 15 hours over the remaining 4 to 5 study days to review my weak points before the exam.

I think it depends on if you have some basis of knowledge going into it. I passed FAR doing nothing but MCQ but I'd been doing general ledger accounting for 18 years and was lucky enough to have bosses who did everything by the book so everything I did in practice was the right answer on FAR mcq. Now for AUD, I couldn't possibly have passed doing only MCQ because save for a few undergrad classes years earlier I was going in blind.

I didn't know there were J/E sims. Now i'm actually nervous. And i just read somewhere that they are FAR related. Just how FAR related are they though?

It's not a best practice, but people do it:

    Studying using *only* NINJA MCQ

    https://www.another71.com/cpa-exam-forum/forum/pass-with-ninja-only

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 76

I'll probably buy the Ninja MCQ's if I fail this but idk, i'm feeling optimistic. I like the idea of doing just MCQ's. Hopefully it works for me.

Yes, with ninja mcq. You have to use the answers explanations like a text to make sure you understand why you were right or wrong. My scores went up almost linearly and it was simply a function of getting better at studying. I hate Aud and like financial but scored highest on aud and lowest on financial

I had a professor that became a CPA recently in his late 40s and he said all he did was do the MCQs for Gleim over and over. So unless you have that much experience in the field I don't advise it. But I found the difference between my AUD score and FAR score was that for FAR I did about 10xs more practice questions. So do as many as you can but if you don't fully know the topic I suggest the old school study method!

    FAR: 85
    BEC: 84
    AUD: 74, 83
    REG: ??

Ya man there are plenty of JEs. You are auditing financial statements.

So I took AUD yesterday. Only 1 JE Sim which I was not prepared for. Overall, while studying, I did not finish all the material, too many questions not enough time. But I did feel like the test was getting harder. Medium Hard Hard (I hope) and the Sims were tough I had time to search through AL. I know I got at least 2 completely right and the Research question 2/3 right.

Of course I may be wrong and completely flunked AUD… but fingers crossed.
