CPA 150 Units AP Credit

Hi everyone. I had a question. So I know that the CBA accepts AP classes and that students can use them to meet the 150 unit requirement. However, how many units do you get per AP class? Is it a standard? Or does it depend on how much your college/university granted you credit for it?

Also, I emailed CBA and they said that in order for them to grant credit, your class title and the units received must be listed on a transcript. Is it okay if they are on two different transcripts? What I mean to say is that the course title is listed on a separate transcript (high school) and the number of college credit received for that class is on my university transcript without mentioning the course title.

    Sorry if this was confusing.

    Hey umairk27,

I was originally going to apply through California (but I moved, and am now in Illinois), and from what I recall, the CBA accepts AP classes that are ON your college transcript. So, assuming you sent your AP scores to your college, your college should have listed whatever class the AP class was equivalent to, and listed how many credits the college's version would give you on your transcript.

I was in the position where I had certain passed AP tests, but my scores weren't “high enough” of passes for my college to give me credit. Therefore, I got in touch with a community college where I was able to send my scores and get additional credits granted from them (as they had lower thresholds of what scores counted for credit). This is where I'm not sure about California, but for Illinois, they caught on and don't want you to just send a transcript with only test credits listed on it. As a result, they required that you have at least one “live” class taken with whatever school the transcript came from. So, I took an online anthropology class through them, got 3 credits for that class, and then my additional credits from the AP tests.

Just wanted to give that additional anecdote in case you find yourself in the position where you might need additional credits from your AP tests.

The AP courses are not listed on my college transcript. All it says is ‘AP Credit Granted' followed by the total number of units. There is no way for CBA to know what classes for AP I took if they only look at my college transcript. They will have to go my high school transcript which then wont have the number of college units I received on it.

Thank you so much for that additional information!
