Hi everyone. I just graduated from the Master of Accountancy program at ASU in May. I am taking the summer off and will start studying for the CPA using Becker in August. The amount of material seems so overwhelming, so my question is for those of you who started soon after school were there a lot of topics that were covered in school and you just had to refresh ? I am hoping it will cut down my study time if I (maybe) retained some info from school, or at the very least it will be like a second review of some topics. That’s what I am hoping at least since I have already started working full time. Lol

First of all congrats on graduating!! I just graduated as well in March and I had started studying since. For your question I can speak for AUD and FAR. For AUD. the audit class I took in college definitely helped me understand the review material more (I use Becker), but AUD also covered way more information that I never learned in class. So as for AUD I would suggest to just use review materials as your main way of studying.

For FAR I feel like everything was entirely based on the 3 intermediate accounting classes I took in college. The intermediate textbook would be a huge help if you're ever stuck on understanding some concepts in your review materials.

    Good luck!

    AUD - 83
    BEC - 81
    FAR - 77
    REG - 77

    AUD - 83 (5/13/16)
    FAR - 77 (7/20/16)
    BEC - (8/12/16)
    REG - (10/15/16)

Awesome thank you ! I graduated the May before with my bachelor's so hopefully some of the my intermediate classes stuck with me. I actually have my intermediate book still ! Maybe it will actually come in handy now.

Congrats on graduating… I also just graduated from a Masters in Accountancy program and yeah i think its definitely a lot more of a review than actually learning new things… Everything I've seen in Becker is something I have done in school as of recent. A government/NFP accounting class was part of my curriculum in graduate school this past semester, which has really been a tremendous help…I graduated with my bachelor's in accounting the year before as well and even if you feel like you haven't retained a ton of info from the intermediate (undergrad) classes I found it comes back easier than you think… Good Luck

So I may actually have a chance of passing this thing. Lol Unfortunatly a Govt/NFP was not part of my program. 🙁

@jdagna – Congrats! I went to ASU for my undergrad! 🙂 ASU has a great accounting program and I'm sure you'll pass. I would actually suggest that you start studying already though. Even waiting a few months will result in you forgetting some things and it's so much harder to get back into study mode. Also, the sooner you start taking the exams, the better chance you have to pass all of the sections before the 2017 changes (although you still should have enough time anyway). In any case, no matter what you decide to do, I highly suggest using Ninja MCQs. I also have a masters in accounting and Ninja MCQs were probably the only reason why I was able to pass BEC and FAR on my first attempt. Best of luck to you!!
