What does everyone think about checking a score before taking your next section? I took FAR before the July 20th cutoff, so (according to Jeff's wisdom) my score will most likely be available for me to see on August 1st. The problem – I take Audit on August 1st in the afternoon. I know that it would probably be better to look AFTER I get home from Audit, but I'm not sure how it would be possible to keep myself from looking the instant it's available. I almost think I'd have to unplug my router and disable the internet on my phone until I leave for Prometric…

Not sure where you live, Chapman, but there's a good chance your score wouldn't be out yet anyway before you go off to test, since scores are released throughout the day rather than at midnight or first thing in the morning. Wave 1 often starts around 11a Pacific for one section (no pattern on which one that we've seen), then a new section every hour. Something like that.

You don't need the distraction. Unplug the router, disable internet on your phone, forget that they come out on 8/1, whatever you need to do!

Anyone know why we have to wait so long for a score? I took my exam Saturday, so my wait is short compared to my other tests, but still, why?!

    BEC - 84
    FAR - 93
    REG - 87
    NYC born and raised.

So they can make sure only 40% of us pass and make themselves feel powerful by giving some people 74's and then the rest fails. In other words: to weight it.

    AUD: 84
    REG: 84
    BEC: 79
    FAR: 83

“the psychometricians need enough exams completed and scored in each window to validate the scoring process for that window before they can begin releasing scores. Later in the window, they still have the scores from the first wave they can use to validate later waves so later waves can happen more quickly. There are typically 2 weeks allowed to complete scoring and validation for the first wave of scores while the other two waves are given about 1 week for those tasks.”

I emailed them. So looks like there is a curve in a sense.

    FAR: 2/23/14 77 (1 month studying)
    AUD: 5/25/14 68
    AUD: 7/13/14 72
    AUD: 10/12/14 72
    I GIVE UP

I think there is a curve which assesses the difficulty of each problem, thus impacting scores to an extent. Haha but nobody is behind the AICPA curtain taking a point off the 75s because too many people passed….

Yeah, all the work is done at the outset in designing the different tests that will be available, not after the tests have been taken. That's all explained in the AICPA documentation on the website.

The explanation that Pikachu posted makes sense. Here's how I interpret it based on my research:

They have several versions of the test in that window, and each test has its own answer key. They have to run each test against the correct answer key, and their process of making sure they're using the correct answer key for each version is to run a whole bunch of them and then look at the passing scores that are coming out as a result of that. If the scores are coming out in the expected spread, then they can assume they used the correct answer keys. If something is off, then they have to check and see what happened. They need a large enough amount of data in order to do all of this or it won't be meaningful. So that's why wave 1 is long and also takes longer to get the results.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Using the right answer key??? It's all computerized that doesn't make much sense to me. Other exams that are MCQ only have different versions and spit your grade out immediately. So what you are saying is that there is no adjustment to the point weighting after the fact? I haven't had time to read the AICPA fine print but then why won't they give us our MCQ score on test day?
