I am in the process of researching CPA reviews. I had never even heard of anything but the Becker until last week. I’ve bene out of school a few years, in accounting management positions, but still feel like I really need a hands on review. From the research I’ve done I’ve gathered that the Becker is more about how to take the test, and a general review of the material. While the Yaeger is more about teaching the material as if you had never learned it before.

Can anybody give me their insight? My firm is splitting the cost with me, so my gut it to go with the Becker since it is more bang for my buck, but if the Yaeger is really covering more material for less money then it seems like the obvious choice…

    Help!!!!

Get Becker. You won't regret it. The MCQs for BEC and AUD on my actual exams were worded EXACTLY like Becker's. I think some of them were even identical questions. Becker doesn't teach you ‘how' to take the test, it teaches you what you need to know in a very condensed form. Some people think this is bad because they need all the ins and outs of why this is the way it is, etc. My contention is you don't need to know all of that, because you're not likely to retain the hows and whys of every single topic on any one exam. You need review questions that are as similar to what you'll see on exam day as possible, and that's Becker. It is true that Becker's SIMs aren't nearly as in-depth as the actual exam, but you can't prepare for a SIM. You apply your MCQ knowledge to the SIM. You can't skip anything in Becker, it's condensed enough as it is. But it's set up so well, and it will give you what you need to pass, trust me. I've passed 3 on the first try, going for 4 on Friday. My friend told me once, ‘trust in Becker.' That is so true. You get what you pay for.

Just my personal (but very steadfast!) opinion.

Just as an fyi…most companies that have MCQs (the mainstream ones anyway) license the questions from the same source: the AICPA…which is why people see “word for word” questions on exam day sometimes. Wiley also licenses their questions from the AICPA.

Roger is awesome, check out his videos. I guess it depends on your learning style and preferences. Do you want some disembodied (for the most part) voice telling you to highlight things or would you like someone actually working through some problems and material with you.

Becker works for most people, but I need a little more stimulation which is why I went with Roger and I haven't looked back. My roommates are using Becker right now and they get jealous comparing my lectures to theirs.

I can't speak to other review courses but I believe some of them have people working out problems with you in the lectures like Roger does.
