Is it worth it to try Wiley CPA excel for the 2014 review or any other suggested programs?

It'll be hard for people to answer this question since most just stick to one review course, maybe supplementing with something like NINJA notes or Wiley TB. I had a great experience with it. It doesn't spoon-feed you quite as much as Becker (e.g., mnemonics and highlighting the most important concepts) but it's definitely just as detailed. Some of the video lecturers are better than others, but I stuck strictly to the text since I learn better from reading anyway. I'm pretty sure all the review programs use licensed AICPA questions, so you can't really go wrong with any of the courses there. You get free course updates (for the new material each year) and it never expires, so that's also another thing to consider. Overall I really liked it.

@co10101 Thank you for the feedback! I have been trying to make this decision for months on what product to purchase because all of my friends swear by becker (too expensive for my blood) so I just want to get the best thats out there and will help me pass.

I think it's ok, especially for the price, but for me it isn't detailed enough and I need to use the Wiley test bank with it…otherwise I find the questions a bit too simple

CPA excel seems to be the new trend, but Gleim is another one you might look into. I am a fan of Yaeger videos.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

In my own opinion, I didn't like CPAExcel at all, I switched to Roger Review because of the videos I saw, his way of teaching etc. he is an awesome teacher and it complements with Wiley!

But, again, is my personal preference.

    Good luck!

The videos on CPAExcel are bite-sized, which can be good. But there are so many video lectures for FAR than it can be overwhelming to try and sit down and get through so many lessons on different topics. However, the textbooks CPAExcel provides you are with are excellent. Examples and journal entries for all topics are clearly laid out and everything is explained very well. My advice to you if you decide to go with CPAExcel is to stick to reading the text and taking notes; only use the video lectures if you are confused on a topic. This worked for me personally because I am able to read and absorb information much faster than I would if I watched the videos.

CPAexcel isn't for everyone, but it does provide all the tools you need in order to pass. Combine it with Wiley test bank and you're solid. The price tag is wayyyyyy better than other companies. I was originally worried that I wasn't going to pass because it was so cheap compared to Becker and other companies, but after sitting for FAR, I feel very comfortable saying that everything on the test was covered in the material.

In addition to CPAexcel and Wiley test bank, cpareviewforfree.com + ninja notes are worth using. The ninja notes are especially good for those of us who use CPAexcel and are not highlighting or not physical writing anything we are learning. By hand writing the ninja notes, I noticed some things to stick in my memory much longer.

    BEC - 80
    AUD - 64, 75 - credit lost, 90!!
    REG - 73, 74, 83
    FAR - 61, 72, 85

Feels good finishing on my best note. Time to watch the mailbox.
