So I failed REG with a 63!! It was a like a slap in the face considering how I thought the exam went. MCQ’s were tricky but not too bad. SIMS were doable and I actually completed them all. Anyways, back to the drawing board. What’d you guys change in your study plans? I used Becker and Ninja MCQ, as a supplement. For the retake, do I go back and do non-stop MCQ’s? Do I read the book? Is Ninja Audio helpful?
Another question is, when to retake the test? I don’t want to drag this but don’t want to rush it either. Help!!!!:((

I don't think you'll be able to use the same NTS. You should call your state board and check.
I loved using Ninja Audio to listen to on my way to/from work. It definitely helped. The biggest suggestion I give anyone is to do MCQs until you're blue in the face. If you already used up one test bank, maybe try switching to another. Take notes on the questions you get wrong, WHY YOU GOT THEM WRONG, and go back and study the logic behind them in the text/videos if necessary to reinforce the concepts on the questions you're missing.

Reg isn't my field at all so I might need that extra push. I'll get Ninja Audio. I think Becker prepared me and I also used Ninja MCQ's for about a week, but clearly that wasn't enough.
December 9, 2014 at 3:41 pm #644182gerhart32Member@Cracked…I am right there with you except I used GLEIM for all three sections and clearly that isnt working for REG. I too am going to supplement with NINJA MCQs and Notes as well in hopes that will give me a boost! Good luck to you we will get it Q1 2015.

REG (11/25) - Waiting on ScoreDecember 9, 2014 at 3:42 pm #644183AnonymousInactiveI'm so sorry cracked. I was looking for you on the thread and didn't see you post. I didn't like the Becker book. I bought Wiley and read all of the tax portion. I should have read the business law chapters too, but I was running out of time and wanted to nail down tax because of the SIMS. I went through each chapter and read the section then stopped to answer the book MCQ for that section. I saved the Ninja MCQ until I had read the entire book, done the book MCQs, and taken notes on the questions. I rewrote the portions of my notes for the sections that I didn't really understand. I can't stress enough how important it is to tackle your weak areas. I always have the tendency to go over my strong areas several times because I like to build my confidence, but it really hurts you in the long run. Keep drilling those week areas more and more until they start to make sense. I did flashcards for the business law, which really helped since I didn't read the book. I have the Ninja Audio, but I rarely have a chance to listen to it because I only have 5 minutes from the time I drop my kids off until I'm at work and I don't really have a job where I can listen to audio all day and retain anything…too many interruptions. But if you're an audio learner and you have the ability to listen and retain while working, driving, etc then I would definitely suggest getting the Ninja Audio. Also, I really suggest being active in the study group and the quizzing is great. It makes a difference to have other people going through it with you and you guys can help each other and explain things to each other. The best way to know if you understand something is to try to explain it to someone else. I hope this helps. You can do this! Good luck!
December 9, 2014 at 3:43 pm #644184nevertoolateParticipant@Cracked – I received a 68 on REG so it looks like we will be retaking together in Q1. I also purchased Ninja MCQ and used for about 3 days; I really like Ninja MCQ and will be using it for all sections once I get to them. I didn't touch the Ninja SIMS, but will be doing so this time around. The SIMS were tough in my opinion and I know that is where I will focus extra time. Putting the material I know into SIMS. Also, I think the SIMS format on Ninja better reflects the format on the exam….not like CPAexcel….which threw me off a bit on exam day. I'm going to go through the entire course again and plan to take on 01/11 to give me enough time to squeeze BEC at the end of Q1. I'm going to do MCQ's and SIMS for 1-2 weeks nonstop. I want to nail it this time around and feel I have a good base now to study off of. One new goal is to get in on the study group….hope to see you there.

December 9, 2014 at 3:52 pm #644185AnonymousInactiveThanks CPAMommyof3 – I will read the book before I start hammering those MCQ's. The mistake I made last time was that I wasn't too active on the study group. There were areas I was struggling with and I could have used some help but instead I tried figuring those out myself. Thanks for the tips!
@nevertoolate – Yes, let's get on the study group and help each other pass this beast. We can do this!!
December 23, 2014 at 11:57 am #644186AnonymousInactiveDecember 23, 2014 at 3:00 pm #644187MamabearMemberHey Cracked! I am CPAMommyof3 also (2 User names). I can't really remember how long it took me to read the book and do the book MCQ. Individual took the longest. I was thrilled when I finished that section and because it was the first section the other ones didn't seem so bad. I didn't take notes while I was reading. I read through until I would come to a stopping point to answer MCQ, answer the MCQ and highlight facts in the explanation paragraphs. I went through all of the chapters that way then went back and jotted down notes from the highlights. It goes much faster if you don't take notes while you are reading and I think it allows for better comprehension reading straight through. I could only get in 15-20 hours a week while I was in the reading phase and it took me a few weeks. I tried to read slow enough to retain as much as possible, but not so slow that I was stressing about every little detail. Wiley is manageable because it allows you to break up all the chapters into small sections so it is easy to take breaks or stop for the night without feeling like you are stopping in the middle of something. If you have more time than I did and can do several hours a night then it shouldn't take you as long to get through all the material. Then hit the testbank hard section by section until you've gotten through all the sections. Leave 2 weeks for a solid review and to hammer out your weak areas.

I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.December 23, 2014 at 7:56 pm #644189AnonymousInactiveREG was my favorite portion to study for, and I rocked my study hours during Christmas break last year. I jumped right into REG after failing AUD. I liked the structure of CPA Excel. I didn't need the structure for BEC, since that is my background and was easy. I could have used more structure for AUD, since all I had was one undergrad course.
I used CPA Excel and then Ninja Notes in the last two weeks. The Ninja Notes really helped for BULA.

February 1, 2015 at 9:19 pm #644191AnonymousInactive@CPAMommyof3 aka Mamabear – So for my Reg retake preparation, I read the Wiley book (only tax portion) and have now started hammering the Ninja MCQ's. My exam is scheduled for Feb 12th. At this point, I am tackling the MCQ's by topic/area and am worried I won't have enough time to study for SIMS. Did you study any Ninja SIMS? Or just focused on the MCQs? I also need to leave a few days to do the business law portion. Time is so short!
February 1, 2015 at 9:32 pm #644192MamabearMemberI did study SIMS. They are harder on the exam, but it really helped me to have some experience with them before test day. Try to get through as many of the blaw MCQ as possible as well. It feels overwhelming, but you have 11 days. you can get through a lot in that time. Good luck!! Let me know how it goes in case I don't see you on the score release thread.

I see on your signature for CPAmommyof3 that you passed the other 3 on the first try, then didn't pass REG on first try, correct?
I passed the other 3 on first try, and now I'm studying for REG so I'm curious to know if you feel that you did anything different for REG that you didn't pass on first try, like the others?
I'm testing at end of Feb, and I'm nervous about it.
So far, doing well on tax portions, but not good on business law. I plan to spend a lot more time on business law, but still need to work on tax more too.
