Rate is relative to location, you might want to add where you are located also. Example in NYC $25 an hour would be crap for a CPA, but in Iowa that might be golden. BTW most professionals are on salary.

In addition to what docholliday said above, salary is only one part of compensation. I know most new professionals think your salary is the be all/end all of how well you're doing, but I'd take a job at 65k/year where the employer pays 100% of medical and dental, matches 5% of salary toward a 401k, offers 4 weeks paid time off and tuition reimbursement before I'd take a job that started it 80k, employer pays 50% of medical and dental, matches 2.5% toward 401k with 2 weeks paid time off and no tuition reimbursement. You actually make more and have a better standard of living taking the 65k job. You get “bragging rights” for the 80k job, but you can't fund a vacation with bragging rights.

Robert half salary guide is a somewhat decent range guide for industry, though it seems slightly inflated (few %) on the public salaries.

In any event, a decent reference point since most pay information is not widely available.

Is there something specific you're trying to find with pay info? Internships? Certain cities? Certain firm types or job titles?

By per hour do you mean annual salary divided by 2080 hours or your annual salary divided by the actual number of hours you've worked for the year. There's a big difference unpaid over time adds up when you are in public accounting.

I make $28/hour excluding the benefits. This is the salary on my offer letter converted to a rate based on an 8 hour day.

Man I need to move out of St Louis. All the public jobs start in the low 50s here. 85k is awesome. Maybe I need to get to Florida. And no state tax too !
