Hey guys, I really need some advice on my CPE plan. I hope someone can give me some suggestions–

I have to finish 80 credits by the end of June 2015 and so far, I finished 17 credits only…:(

Could you please let me know how you do your CPE and if there is a fast way to meet my deadline at this moment?

    Thanks!!!!

Go to the website of the each of Big 4 and sign up for their email alerts. The have free webinars (several per month on various topics) that you can watch and earn CPE credit. Each webinar is usually an hour long. I do them now at work even though I'm still working on passing the exams. I can often find topics I'm studying or topics related to the industry I'm in. You could also check out your state CPA society. They often have pretty reasonable options for you to choose from. The AICPA has CPE classes/seminars too but they are on the expensive side plus they are generally located in the major cities which for me woudl add significant cost.

If you really want to knock this stuff out fast, you need to order books from a CPE website – for example “cpestore.com,” the site I use. You can take the test at the end of the book and submit answers online – the tests are easy as they follow the chapter-by-chapter progression of the book so you generally don't have to spend too much time searching.

I just spent 300 bucks on 40 hours which is a great deal – completed all 40 hours in 3 days. There is nothing wrong with sitting in classrooms or webinars for CPE; but if you want to get it done fast I would suggest the book route.

Keep in mind that only a certain % of your CPE can be self study; thus, you will need to choose some LIVE webinars or actually attend classes.

That's what my firm used when I was in public. There are tons and tons of topics and plenty of webinars so you get the breakdown you need. It's pretty inexpensive when you compare it to going to live seminars.

I use CPEthink.com which is all online (if I recall you're international?). Was $300 for unlimited credits for 3 years. I got my credits to renew in 2013 and will have all my credits done to renew for 2015 as well.

We do all of ours through webinars. It's not fast, and the full day webinars are brutal, but it beats the self study we used before.

@tripp11 – That is not true for Ohio, where I am licensed (I did check with my board.) That must be a requirement from whatever state you are in but is not all encompassing.

In MA all of your CPE units can be self study. I had no live webinars or seminars and was able to renew last year. I also used some of the quickbooks proadvisor online credits,

Just remember part of your CPE in MA has to be ethics. That website I used had a MA ethics CPE required course.
