Credit in MBA program for CPA?

    All,

Need some input from the A71 consortium. I was halfway done my MBA when I hit the pause button and spent the next 2.5 years (pre-reqs. and exams) getting my CPA certificate. I’m happy to say I’m done with the CPA!! This Fall semester I started the MBA program again.

I am hoping to get Univ. of MD (Smith School of Business) to give me credits for either the CPA certificate and/or the pre-req classes. I doubt I would get credit for the pre-req. courses because I took them at a local community college and are probably considered undergrad classes. But would take a shot and submit for credit anyways.

What could I say, list, or provide as justification to them to show that the CPA Certificate is worthy of counting towards some MBA class credits? There is Business, Auditing, Taxation, and Financial Reporting. I need to build a case to convince them, if could get even 2 credits out of this it would help a great deal.

Any input on the matter would be appreciated.

I'm really not sure that the CPA itself would count towards the MBA because none of my MBA classes count towards the educational credits (24 upper level accounting) required to sit for the exam. There just isn't much overlap between the two except for the basic financial and managerial accounting and basic economics unfortunately, but it's worth a shot. I hope it works out for you!

CPA Exam - Finally DONE (November 2014)
    BEC (08/10/13) 80
    AUD (08/24/13) 65 (11/13/13) 85
    FAR (04/12/14) 81
    REG (07/19/14) 69 (11/29/14) 87!!

I was able to get Virginia Board of Accountancy to accept 1 of my MBA classes toward the pre-reqs. I had two other accounting related classes but they didn't accept them.

I think I'll put something in writing to illustrate the number of hours studied, course material used, and exam scores and passing rates for that period. Will try to get some more info from AICPA site to see if I can backup my case.

    Thanks
