How are non-CPA's making this much? I was making $40,000 last year for a small company. I had no experience and no CPA. I will have one very soon, though, as I am studying for my last section and feel very good about AUD. Currently, I am not working just studying. I wish I had good jobs like y'all right now.

Salaries obviously vary but az is kinda low.....im pulling a good salary but with the time i have in my career it is more representative of my past experience than of my ability to become a cpa....I had a very similar role when i lived in NYC and made 125k plus bonus
I think getting the CPA early in your career can move you up in a organization faster and in turn get you a better salary faster....i came out of school in finance and then moved into accounting later and was able to elevate my salary fairly quickly back then without a cpa

There is no increase in salary for getting my CPA, but it does help some when applying for other government position but actually a bachelors/masters degree would earn more points than a CPA go figure. The one thing I do like is it extremely difficult to get rifted or fired unless you are a deadbeat so can't really beat the job security.

potatogun - my role is basically to get clients for my firm. I'm real good at contacting and networking to get businesses to go with our firm. I'm also an expert in various accounting software. I've been with my firm for about 3 1/2 years. I've been a controller and VP of Finance for 5 private and public companies, which are now my firm's clients. As a CPA, I now have more credibility when I network to find clients.....
You only make partner in small or large firms when you can bring-in lots of business. But I dislike very much the partners in my firm and they only like me becuase of my relations with the firms clients and the business I bring in.....

FARbehind, I'm ok in my salary but I feel I should be making more.
My brother-in-law was recruited by a "head-hunter" and got a job as a Financial Controller for a big fortune 500 company in North Carolina, he's been a CPA for private industry since 1996 - and his salary is $350K plus bonus., before that he was making $200K. And now he's doing twice as good as me.
I'm 41 yrs old, I should have gone for my CPA 17 yrs ago and I also would be making $350K by now........most of my friends I know, (late 30s to early 40s) are making between $125K and $400K.........
It takes years to increase your salary, but a CPA license really opens doors for you sooner. You should always be looking for better opportunity...don't stay in one job more than 3 years.........

Is anyone else finding really low-ball offers on Craig's List? I'm seeing requests for 5 years experience, QB certified, etc, and the salary is $10-15 per hour. This is Denver Craig's List, and I've been looking at the ads for about a month. I'm also looking elsewhere, and I know Craig's List isn't the most reliable source, but it still makes me very nervous about the possibility of having to accept a $12 per hour this year instead of remaining unemployed.

@ candidate77: I have been looking in Iowa and see the same type of jobs posted. A lot of the accounting jobs listed on job sites and places like Craig's List are lower level accounting jobs. Many of them really only need a 2 year associates degree. Many firms looking for CPAs use a placement firm such as Robert Half, you should look into those. That is how I got my current job with a CPA firm. My firm goes through this placement company whenever they need to hire somebody. It costs you nothing, and the placement firm will search for you!

Started in internal audit out of college in 2007 making 47k and got a bump in pay when I transferred to an accounting role.
I won't get raise or bonus for CPA but plan to move next year and I'm hoping it will help me get to 70k- 75k.
Word of advice: don't be afraid to negotiate your salary and ask for more money
