    Hello all,

I am taking BEC on April 7th, a little under two weeks left and am working my way through all the MCQ again. I have been doing progress tests to see where i really need to focus my studies after i complete all chapters MCQ, but am curious how everyone feels on taking the Final exams from Becker? Is it worth it? Or should i just focus on redoing MCQ that I am not doing so well on during the progress tests. I have heard the Final Exams can be overwhelming and give you a false appearance that you are doing worse than you actually are. Would love everyone’s view on this.

    Thanks

    FAR 5/28/2014
AUD Sometime in Beg. of July
REG Sometime in End of August

I don't have Becker, but I feel the review material is a little harder than the actual exam. I have not taken BEC yet, but I'm hoping that this is indeed true.

@NYCaccountant you seem to have done really well on both FAR and REG, relative to your scores. Is there anything you know you did that really helped you solidify the material and get such great scores? or are you in the field doing that type of work? I feel pretty good with my material have been scoring around 80-83% on the MCQ as I go back through and when i do progress tests, cumulative of all chapters, at 24 questions each i seem to be getting about 19-21 questions right each time, which is once again around the 80-83%. Just want to make sure if I'm doing this well on the Becker material i should be ok for the test.

Review courses are intended to be difficult so that when you get into the exam you have a better chance of passing. I think I was testing low to mid 70's on my BEC Becker finals and I ended up with a 78 on the real thing. I scored a 67 on my REG Becker final and I ended up with a 73, so that should have been an indication I was right on the line and that I should have worked more MCQs. My advice is to work through the finals (you'll get some different MCQs than the ones you are used to seeing in the homework, so that's a plus too) and just see how you do. If you're testing around 70 or higher on those, I think you're in pretty good shape. Then work MCQs until exam day.

I would say that the finals may not be the best indication of your actual exam score as the review finals tend to produce lower scores than the actual exam, but if you score below 70, then maybe it's time to assess what your weak areas are. I would say do at least one of the Becker finals, but do it like a week before your exam because if you do poorly, then 1) you won't feel dominated and hopeless right before your exam if you take your review final too close to your exam day (we all want to feel confident going in to that exam!) and 2) you will have another week of study after your review final to go over any weak areas. Hope that helps!

    BEC - 78 (8/30/13)
    REG - 73 (1/31/14) - 76 (4/7/14)

    FAR - after the wedding
AUD - also after the wedding

If you're scoring in the 80's on MCQs, I think you'll be fine! It may not hurt to see some fresh questions in a review final though just to see how you do on that.

@Mratner I work in financial reporting so I think that helped a great deal with FAR. I have no tax experience at all, so I pretty much just learned the REG material. Everything in REG was brand new to me, but clearly you don't need tax experience to pass that exam. BEC is tricky because some questions are very easy, others take about 5 minutes to figure out.

NYCaccountant. That makes me feel much better about FAR. I work in financial reporting also, public company on the NASDAQ. How much time did you give yourself for FAR? and how much studying(in hrs) did you do each week?

I probably took 2 and half months for FAR, probably like 20 hours week. I took a vacation while studying to Mexico and did not study that entire week lol. The amount of material in FAR is crazy, but it can be defeated.
