I am currently licensed in North Carolina. I work at a regional accounting firm, but an opportunity has come up where I could possibly join a BIG 4 firm overseas. Has anyone on this site dealt with this process before? I am trying to get an idea of what to expect concerning my CPA license. Is it typical to need additional certifications when you move abroad, or should my current license suffice? Does a U.S. CPA license really hold much value abroad where IFRS is used?

I do see that the AICPA offers an IFRS certificate program. Has anyone taken part in this program and found it worth the money? Are there any other IFRS programs that anyone would recommend?

    Thanks,

    AUD - 71,81
    BEC - 78
    REG - 81
    FAR - 69, 76 and Done!

First questions is where are you moving to? Then you can look at whether you need your credentials translated. But most of the time Big Four does not require that from you because you specialty will be US GAAP and probably IFRS when you complete your training on IFRS (full week workshop or less depends on your knowledge). Also depends on what you want to specialize on. Most of the world is Charted Accounts (CA) mainly common wealth nations i,e. UK, NZ etc.which is equivelent of US AICPA but much stricter requirements to get the designation. But then you can get the CIMA desigantion GCMA (Global Charted Management Accountant) I might have messed it up a bit look it up. Which is the UK equivelent of US CMA/AICPA but different, but since you have your license you will ask them CIMA to review your experience and education if you qualify you pay the pounds and voila you have a new desigantion.

Most organizations are international have specialists to deal with different country reporting requirements.
