Hey you future cpa’s (in my Peter Olinto voice). So what do you do when you have no energy to do any homework questions but you want to do some type of effective studying that day? Sometimes i just go back and listen audio all day or somedays ill do nothing but look over my notes and call it a day. What do you do when you dont want to any questions on a particular day?

When I didn't want to do questions I did them anyway. The same way I go to work when I don't want to and do laundry when I don't feel like it. I found treating it like my job was the best way not to slack.

I finished the exam three (gasp!) years ago. At the time I had a f/t job (8a-5p), was taking online classes for my masters, working Sundays at Kohls, had a 12 year old daughter and 18 year old son, ran a girl scout troop every Monday night, and coached cheerleading two weeknights and Saturdays.

With that said, I studied 1.5-2 hours every weeknight, (from about 10p-midnight) and then 4-5 hours every Saturday and Sunday (from about 6a-11a which was when my kids woke up, oh the life!). I was totally on autopilot, make no mistake but I fit it in somehow……..

There are times though, that doing questions does you no good. If you aren't focusing doing questions just to do questions is not a good way to go because your test bank is like a limited resource, once you start repeating questions the value declines significantly IMO. I would do audio, or sometimes just take the day off. I'm an advocate of being very aware of where you are throughout the study process. If you aren't going to retain anything anyway I think you do yourself more good by resting and then hitting it hard the next day once refreshed.

Good question OP! I feel like this sometimes and what I normally do is I'll re-watch a video on a topic that was really hard for me or listen to NINJA audio. Yesterday, I actually re-wrote my notes and added IFRS information to my notes since it was one of those days that I didn't have the time or energy to do MCQs.

@howmanylettersdoyouneed…..Yes thats pretty much what I do when I totally have no motivation to do another mcq for the life of me. I'll just strap on my ear plugs to listen to audio and make something in the kitchen or just read over notes. I always believe some studying is better than nothing.

My first response is – do the questions anyway.

But, in times when you really can't, I recommend reading your notes, which will probably put you to sleep, but that's good cuz at that point, rest is what you need the most anyway.

Once you've rested, do more MCQ's.

If you can't do mcq's, the read the book, notes, or pdf's, if you can't read the materials then watch the videos, and if you can't do that then listen to the audio lectures. As long as you get continuous exposure to the materials one way or the other it will soon get embedded in your head and will help you with the exam. I did it with BEC and REG and it helped a lot especially when I was studying for both sections at the same time.

I'm a newbie and am studying FAR for my first section exam. I study 3-5 hours every day and have found that some days are more productive than others. I don't like going on “autopilot” through the questions, which happens when my brain is about to rot and I can't stand the thought of doing another MCQ… LOL

In the end, I think it's more important to just do the questions anyway. If you know that you aren't getting anything out of it, at least you're getting more familiar with the terminology and picking up from the answer explanations. Then just revisit them another time and really lock down the content.

    Regardless, the struggle is real!

I go to my liquor cabinet and grab a drink. It usually lightens my mood, and helps with studying. Just enough to get me relaxed, and not get intoxicated.

I agree with everyone else, do them anyway. I have had too many days where I didn't want to do questions. I didn't want to look at that Wiley book at all, but I realized that I have no way of knowing where I am in this study process if I don't do the questions. so I stopped being afraid of the answers and just do the questions. I do the audio or rewrite notes or go over note cards if I get energy stuck.
