    Hi Another71’friends,

I am writing to ask for help of how to tackle BEC 2nd times; for those who have read my post on AUG 2nd 2012 as followed:

“ … I just took the exam yesterday. All I can say is “………SHOCK, SHOCK & SHOCK…..” I used Becker 2011 and Wiley Test Bank 2012, Ninja Audio and Notes 2012 as my review course. I studied so hard for it and my average practice score is around 85-90%. I felt quite prepared. Guess what..! I couldn’t believe myself what I saw on the exam. There were about less than 2% calculation questions just add and subtract kind of things. It is so weird as I progressed through the test, I kept looking at the title of my screen and asked myself, if this is really a BEC exam or something else (which I got no idea)? I don’t think I can make it this time, but I am not giving up. I just I don’t know how am I going to study for it next time?. It is not because I didn’t put enough time nor I don’t know understand the materials but the exam questions are just so random and out of nowhere. The way questions asked is either right or wrong, and either you know it or you don’t (there is no logic that you can work thru and try to answer it. After exam, I went straight back to the Becker book and tried to find the answers for it, I still couldn’t find it. I just think if I should switch to some other review courses? For my exam THIS ONE in particular, had I have more time, I still couldn’t never be prepared for it because the questions were not covered in the material that I studied for ( it is just you are trying so hard looking to adopt a dog in a pig farm, if you know what I mean? It is just never there for you to adopt because you are looking in the wrong place :(.

I felt like it is just like a draw on a lottery, if you are lucky enough, you will get the exam questions that you are prepared for…”

I thought there would be a miracle for me on the exam score release day, but unfortunately, there wasn’t any. I got 69, but I am not surprised at all.

Now I am ready to rematch in OCT 2012, I desperately need help and my questions are:

1.Should I supplement with some other review courses or stick with what I have? If I should, what do you recomend? I am now using Becker 2011, Ninja notes, audio and Wiley 2012. Last exam, I studied all three review courses pretty thoroughly (average score of 85-90%). But the thing is: most of the exam questions from my last exam were not covered in the review course that I was using. I am scared if I keep using the same review courses that I have right now, I will end up the same situation.

2.What should I do differently in terms of restudy plan?

Thanks so much in advace for help!

    Hi 888888,

It sounds like you are on track, I only used Wiley to such great success that I followed Custer into battle again at the REG alamo and got my butt handed to me.

My exam was very much like yours, I felt that Wiley WAY over prepared me as my calculations were infantile. I did well just using Wiley.

Did you rewrite your notes? I found that helped.

Another thing I did was that I created an excel file (legal paper sized) showing each chapter's problems and had them numbered. At the bottom I was able to do an individual calculation by section and it clearly pointed out what the issues were. Maybe that would help you. Maybe you were weak in a particular area and that was tested but when considering your overall a bad grade averaged with a couple great grades to disquise a weakness the exam exploited.

It's my belief that the IT/COSO material isn't covered in any review material. I used Becker, wiley test bank, ninja notes and I had so many questions that just weren't covered. I think the best thing to do for those section is to study what is reviewed in the material and figure out why those rules exist and the reasoning behind those decisions. Then you use that knowledge to try to answer the questions to the best of your ability.

If the computation are your weak point, make flashcards and commit those damn formulas to memory. Good luck on your retake. If I had failed, I wouldn't even have known what to do either. Those damn IT/COSO questions are evil.
