Ahhhhh....... took FAR today and it was hard!!! I bairly touched the 2nd sim. Did anyone else run out of time and still pass? I felt good about the multiple choice.
When I took my first FAR exam, I just didn't belive how fast time flies. I finished MC after 3 hours and 15 min.
35 min to first simulation where I finished only one tab and comm. The other tabs had no time to read because information was all over. For the second simulation, I didn't open all tabs and comm. I had time only to open one tab and compleate one or two answer, when I run out of time. My score was 74.
I too would like to hear people's thoughts on this (thanks for posting this question Ikinzer!)
I took FAR on Saturday, 5/14 and wound up with only 17 minutes when I started SIM 2. After the written communication and the Research tabs (Thank You Jeff Elliott.....I didn't know how important those two were) I only had MINUTES to complete 4 complete tabs. Unfortunately, each tab had 2-4 paragraphs of reading material (each one was a separate problem.)
Bottom line.......as the clock wound down.....I finished one tab and just began randomly clicking on answers for the remaining three tabs......I WAS PISSED (AT MYSELF!)
So much like everyone else....I walked out of there KNOWING I didn't pass.........BUT.....let's see....as it seems like most people feel that way but wind up getting a 75 or 76 :-)
I used to get negative responses about how I took FARE, but honestly I seriously understudied for it and just went being sure that I'll retake it in next testing window, so don't say it's stupid; I know it is.
First testlet: flew through, it was difficult because I didn't study enough. Second testlet: partially answered, partially guessed. Third: mostly guessed. First sim: memo and research only; second sim: memo and research only - got really bored.
Passed with 75. Now, this is a VERY BAD WAY of taking this exam, but my point is: yes, it's possible not to finish some parts and still pass. I myself think that memos are the most important (they weigh 10 out of 30, which makes it only 20 points for the rest of tabs on both sims)
P.S. I know that CPAWannabe studied a lot for this exam. Which makes me believe (since I guessed most of it and I am not that good in financial accounting) that big part of it is how other people did that day. If everyone studied hard - it's more difficult to pass. In my case, obviously many people didn't do well, so it allowed me to pass with minimum effort. Weird exam system. Oh well...
Anna you give me hope that I might actually have passed FAR. I struggled to study for it, and I went into it feeling the least prepared of any of the sections. I struggled on the MC, which is usually where I am the strongest. I guessed a lot. However I was able to complete both Sims, Memos, and Research Tabs before my time ran out (even if I was unsure of some of my answers). So if you were able to get a 75 maybe I can too!
A friend of mine didn't finish his last FAR sim and got a 91. Don't stress!
Anna,
you are just probably the kind of person who holds himself to high standards. I know bunch of people who would always say: Oh, I did bad but they end up passing. Now if you did as you describe (guessing so much) you will not pass, I can guarantee you. So you either have very high standards on yourself or have no idea where you stand actually. You probably studied so much that everything became second nature to you. So when you say you guessed it is actually your knowledge speaking... without you knowing...:)
Thank you all for giving me hope!!! I might have a chance...
Good luck to everyone else out there waiting on a score!
FARBehind, I think it was big luck that day.
I know, because I studied for other parts with both, passing and failing.
But my main point is: forget how i got through MCQ. All I want to say ia that yes, it is possible not to finish parts of sims and still pass because I seriously only did memos and reasearch tab (not advising anyone to attempt that though).
I took FAR during my last semester, just to see what it was like. I am always the first one done with a test in school. Didn't finish the second SIM. Passed with a 77.
I did what cpawannabee did too. I didn't have enough time to finish so I just started clicking away on the tabs just to put something. The multiple choice questions must have been my downfall though. 69.
Anna said something that is so true: your score depends on how others are doing in your testing window.
Jeff also said he didn't finish a sim and passed FAR.
ummm what is everybody talking about what is so important about the research tab? Isn't it only worth 1 point? I didn't do either research tab on audit and skipped one on far what's the point that tab is pointless.
Thanks for all the feedback! I definately wasted valuable time on the research sections...
I know someone that didn't finished the last simulation, left it almost started and had an 85. It can depend in whow well u did in the other parts of the exam... Good Luck!
I didn't finish the last sim and made an 80.
When I took FAR I got to the simulations with about an hour remaining on the test. So I spent my time getting through the first one, being sure to answer everything correctly. However, I spent about 5 minutes on my communication, and didn't answer the research tab (I guessed, maybe spent 1 minute.) Then by the time I got to the second simulation, I had approximately 15 minutes left. So I answered the first tab, and then just had to click through the remaining tabs, guessing on everything. My communication on the second simulation was literally 1 sentence long. I walked out, feeling really confident about my MC questions, and feeling horrible about my last simulation and both my writtens. I ended up with a 91. So that goes to show you, anythings possible. Because I pretty much didn't even do the last sim. and got a great score. So its possible. Don't lose hope!
This really helps knowing its still possible to pass with not having finished the last sim. I am really worried as I took REG on April 26 and didn't finish the last sim but did finish the communication tab. At this point all I have is some hope and really pray that I pass.
The pressure is on... BEC expires this month. Good luck everyone!
FAR 62, 70, ??

I had a similar experience:
1 easy 2 hard 3 hard (but maybe easy?) 4 Investments (easy) / Pension (hard for me) / capital lease (hard for me)/ comm (decent performance, nothing commendable)/ research (I think I got it) 5 Not enough time to even guess on the tabs/ comm (got in a paragraph that answered the very bare minimum)/ Research (not enough time)
Needless to say I feel like crap. heh.
I only did the comm. section on the first sim. and everything on the second sim. except for the research part. Managed to pass the exam!!
I just passed REG with an 84. I BS both of my communications. I had problems with all the tabs, and I even had 2 tabs with 20 slots to fill in with numbers when I had 1 minute left, and I just put zeros in all 20 of them. My report says that I did Stronger in the MCQ, and then Comparable in the communication and simulations.
Good luck to you all! Do not be discouraged, I thought that I was going to get a 60 and ended up being an 84!
Congratulations, Trojan. CPA. And you're giving me hope...
Thank you Anna! Do not lose your hope. I see that you got an 74 before, you will get that extra point this time and be done with this.
Best of luck!
Similar experience for me on REG. I felt so confident going through the MC. The first simulation was rough. Several things I was confused about. I definitely BS both communications. 3 tabs on the last simulation were all similar and I didn't have a clue. Just found out I passed with an 86!!!
i passed FAR with an 81 and did both written communications, but didn't answer a single question on my 2nd sim. i'm telling you the written portion is more important
Agreed with Havetopass 100%. Had similar experience with my FARE.
Congrats Trojan.CPA!!! You must feel so relieved to be finished.
Thank you lkinzer,
In fact I do! I feel so relieved, today I am working on my CA ethics exam, and then I have two weeks to study for the CISA exam. That is the other certification that I want to pass before I start in July at a big4.
But tonight I am going to party like there is no tomorrow!
Good luck in your exams!
