Looking for input as to the differences between a winter or summer internship w/ big 4. Are there cons/pros, different experience?

    Anything else is helpful.

An excerpt from Goingconcern.com regarding Big4 internships:

“It's important to understand the difference between an an internship and a “winternship”. An internship is where you spend all day ******* around, doing fun activities and partying with the full-time staff. A winternship is during busy season and you will probably have to do actual work…and all the people you'll be working with will be tired, miserable, and generally hate their lives. I think an internship is safer because you can be stupid/lazy and may still be able to cover it up enough to swing a full-time offer. A winternship is more likely to expose your flaws”

    FAR - 87 (7/19/13)
    BEC - 82 (8/29/13)
    REG - 86 (10/18/13)
    AUD - 91 (12/06/13)

Winter… lots of hours. Summer, not so much.

I think you should always do the Winter/Spring internship so you know the long hours you could getting into. My friends who had summer internships were struggling to get 50 hours a week.

    FAR - 84
    AUD - 94
    REG - 86
    BEC - 86

I did a winternship with PwC back in 2005 (damn, I'm old). I thought it was a great experience— you get a sense for what public is really like (I had a friend who ultimately decided it wasn't for her and was able to switch majors), you make a ton of money, and you get a sense of pride of having one busy season under your belt. I also feel like it gives you a leg up when you are a first year.

When I interned, most people got an offer (unless you acted like a complete jackass). But it could be different now. I don't really agree with Goingconcern.com that a winternship will expose your flaws. Your seniors are going to give you some leeway since you are an intern- plus, if you have flaws they are going to exposed anyway at some point! Better to know early so you can improve.

This exam ALMOST defeated me back in 2006-2008, but I came back and WON!
