I am new to the process. I am going to take BEC next month. My question is, do they provide scrap papers? or anything to write on? Thank you for the input.

They give glossy sheets that are hard to write on due to the pens.

It's like dry erase. Except for the erase part. The markers aren't very fine tipped, which means you cannot write very small. My test center would only give 2 double sided 8.5×11 sized sheets, and would allow you to trade them out once you filled them up, but it meant leaving the test area and wasting time. I've heard other testing centers were more lenient and would bring them to you, or give you more than 2, but 2 is the “official” number.

they give me two when I start the exam, and they don't limit it, they'll give me more if needed.

I wore long sleeved t-shirts when testing and quietly spit on the white dry erase sheets and using my shirt sleeve I cleared the sheets of my calculations when/if I ran out of room.

The process to obtain new sheets was painfully slow at my testing center, and I wasn't going to waste any of my time waiting around for replacement sheets.

I also tested the markers before walking into the testing room, and I didn't walk in until I found two that worked well and were more of a fine point than wide point.

You shouldn't need more than one sheet for any of the exams. The tests aren't long enough to give you quantitative questions that require more than a few steps.

What's with the erasing? It doesn't work well or something?

I took FAR (my first exam) last week and I didn't know I could ask for more sheets…So, I did what Tripp11 did and cleared the sheets with my spit lol Good thing I was wearing a black long sleeve shirt.

The sheets and markers I was provided with would not erase without some sort of moisture and rubbing. Using the shirt sleeve seemed logical to me to use.

It amazes me that they cannot invest in better markers… I have these fine tip markers that erase with ease. They definitely don't break the wallet. Just one more thing to stress out a CPA candidate I guess… Might as well have proctors that walk around and crop dust you too!

I recommend not twirling the pens around. I like to do “pen tricks” during tests (carried over from college days) and the ink went flying every where. Ruined a perfectly good white warriors shirt too..

Don't believe what the others say. They actually give you an Abacus, along with a stone tablet with chizel and hammer for scratch.

@12tang – Well, you may have to, but just be careful about not filling up the 2 sheets too fast. I am sure you can get more sheets. Also, the pens run dry, so close with the cap each time…

@Last Chance – Thanks! I don't write a lot but with Becker, you have to almost with the bonds/leases portion… I guess that's what I was referring to. Luckily, I have already bought dry erase and gloss sheets so I can get into the habit of using them, which includes capping those markers! haha 🙂
