Do Wiley Review Books Cover Up Near 100% of the Topics on the CPA Exam?

I am going to be purchasing additional review materials after my transcript is accepted. But for now I am only using a FAR Wiley review. I was wondering how many more topics I need to learn/review in addition to the topics already in this review book. This way I can have a better idea on the pace I should be going at.

Here’s a picture of the list of topics:

For those who had used Wiley before, do they cover up most of the small details in their modules? Thanks!

Wiley is known for covering EVERYTHING. The reason they're not more popular isn't because they lack thoroughness, but because they're so thorough that some people don't want to take the time to read through it all. I used Wiley alone and never encountered a topic on the exam that I hadn't seen in Wiley. So, I doubt you'd have any new topics to cover if you get through the whole book. It's boring, but it's worth it.

Nothing covers 100 percent, but I found wiley covered everything all the other books covered like Becker. It covers enough to get a high score but there is always left field questions that nobody covers. So it covers all the important parts. I used Becker(2013 and 2014) and wiley (2008).

I used Wiley for REG and FAR. They are thorough like Lilla said. Lack of topics won't be a problem with Wiley.

Thanks guys! That's good to know. And haha Lilla! I was actually reading through EVERYTHING cause I am lost child. I really don't mind reading through everything, but it's not the topics that are killing me, it's the massive amount of little details. I was wondering how people can go through all that material in a month, AND go through all the MCQ and SIMS AND retain all of that in their head.

The books aren't that bad if you're patient…and you won't remember all the details, but the more you remember, the better. If we remembered all of them, we'd all get 99's…I promise you, my FAR score was far from a 99…!

I actually wonder that also. How people can get through an entire review course section in a month?

    Dantrick-

Many do. The only test I spent more than 4 weeks on was FAR. That one was about 6 weeks total.

As others have said, Wiley is VERY thorough – almost to a fault. I'd highly recommend supplementing. I haven't used the Ninja books but the sample chapters looked much more concise, while still covering the information you need to know. Test bank and flashcards are great though! (Ninja ones – Wiley test bank isn't all it's cracked up to be).

    Hi Everyone,

I'm just starting my CPA journey, taking my first exam, BEC in April 2015. I purchased Wiley and am about 45% through the material, feeling like I understood most of the topics and did well on the Practice Qs after the lessons. Then I started taking the MCQs in the test bank and was like uuuhhh???!!! I also felt like some of the MCQs in the test bank were not covered in the lessons. Did anyone else feel this way or am I just not making the connection in the lessons that I thought I was making?

    Any insight is helpful!

    Thanks!

I used Wiley with some Ninja supplements. The audio is especially great. I kept it running in the car whenever I drove, and it helped the most important concepts stick. But reading the Wiley book was where I did my main learning.

There weren't too many Ninja books out yet when I was testing, just BEC. I tried to use the free sample, but a PDF book just didn't work well for me. I like to have an actual book in my hand where I can flip through the pages, and it helps me remember stuff since I picture it on the page. It just doesn't work like that for me with a PDF book.

They look well-written, but I guess I'm old-fashioned in that I like to curl up with a (good) book.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

Getting through an exam in a month is easier with Wiley than with others due to reading being faster than watching lecturse and then reading. 😛 Reading the book is 20-30 hours if you read quickly and don't do the MCQs, then a couple days devoted to MCQs should get you through a lot. I didn't do many practice SIMs (believed that learning the material was more important, since SIMs can be on any topic in the book and aren't likely to be like the handful that you practice). I think I was around 50-60 hours of study for FAR, which is very achievable in a month.

ETA: @Claudia It will all feel foreign when you start in the test bank, but as you do more, it will all start to make sense. Don't worry; you'll get there! 🙂

Anyone have any experiences with Roger? I've seen a couple of his videos on YouTube and the way he taught was totally made for me. I was so sure that Roger will definitely be one of my supplements after my transcript goes through.

Also Ninja notes are just REALLY concise notes right? Will this help if I am already writing up my own notes on Microsoft Word as I am going through Wiley?

One of my friends is a die-hard Roger fan. I didn't use lectures at all, but Roger was my favorite of the ones I've looked at, so if I'd gotten one, it would've been his.

@Oimie – You're right about the Ninja notes. I used them for FAR and added extra notes in my weak areas as I was going through the test bank. I swear that's what got me my pass on my second shot at that exam. The Wiley book was just a little too overwhelming for me to try to get through (I am not exactly known as a woman of patience!) and I couldn't stand the lectures i had, so test bank/notes/flashcards it was!
