Do you have your diplomas on display?

Hey everyone I have something I’m curious about. I just graduated with my masters in accounting a couple months ago, and have since received my diploma (already had my bachelors diploma). Do any of you actually frame/hang your bachelors or masters diplomas at home or elsewhere? With the fairly new sentiment that “a masters degree is the new bachelors degree” I have debated whether I should even hang either of them up in my apartment, especially the bachelors. It also kind of feels like a silly idea to hang up the masters diploma now that I am in the process of taking the CPA exam and have seen how difficult that is compared to school.

Any thoughts? Not a big decision obviously, but I’m just curious how you all feel about that yourselves.

I had to decorate my own office. That really isn't my thing and I didn't want to pick something tacky or ugly so I put them in frames on my walls. That way no one can say I have ugly paintings on my walls. No one reads them they just make the walls not bare. I feel like I could have made my own on the computer and put them up and no one would ever know.

I hung mine at home. I have an office there with it's own entrance. The house was built by the town's dentist back in 1875 and has a two room office in the front. It's where I hope to be a sole practitioner one day.

As far as work goes, I have a cube, so I don't bother to hang anything there. It's not baller to have a ton of plaques with only fabric board to hang them on.

I have my bachelor's diploma displayed in my office at home, and a smaller version (given to us when we graduated) displayed in my office at work. It may seem like a small thing, but it was still a big accomplishment that I'll continue to be proud of even after I've received my CPA license. It serves as a reminder of what I went through to get to the point that I could even think about sitting for the CPA, let alone getting through all four exams.

For what it's worth, I'm in my early 30s.

If I live in a household where everybody have a high school diploma, then I will show off with my bachelors and masters degree certificate. I would also show off with them if we were still in the 70s when college education was a luxury, but this is 2014. Its even better to hang your vacation pictures, because that will show how cool you are!

@billbrasskey your house sounds cool! My husband and I recently purchased our first home less than a year ago but we're already thinking about what we really want in our next house hahaha

A first floor office with its own entrance is a MUST!

Hang it at home in an area that is visible to you but not that visible to guests. Office, if you have one, is good; but we use our dining room as office/sewing room/indoor basketball room for 7 year old. so too visible. My wife and I have our four diplomas in the hallway on the way to our bedroom. That way we can see them but we aren't ostentatious.

My CPA certificate will go alongside when I receive it in a few weeks.

I'm not even sure what I did with my diplomas, but I live in an apartment and work in a cube so I don't really have anywhere to put them.

I think it really depends on what kind of person you are. My husband has few in his office, but I can't hang mine, it would probably just make me laugh. Sort of if I built a monument to myself to remind me of how great I am 🙂

    Thanks CPA4Birthday.

This was our first house, too. We closed about 6 months back. It's been great being a homeowner, but rough owning an old home while studying for CPA exams. The previous owner was an architect and got it about 90% restored. The remaining 10% is enough to keep a non-architect pretty busy.

My wife and I both love old homes and this one is a pretty great example of the Carpenter Gothic (a subset of Victorian) architecture style. Another good example would be the home in the background of the painting, American Gothic.

Here's a pic (the office entrance is behind the crepe myrtle on the left):

I'm going to finish putting up the remaining gingerbread after I'm done with these tests.

Mine are on a wall in my house, but I'm getting an office in a few weeks and my boss told me I should hang them up in there and leave room for my CPA. I'm not sure I really see the point since everyone knows my background being that I've been at the company for 7 years, but I'll probably do it anyways to make space at home for my kids accomplishments. 🙂 Plus, I agree with whoever said it's better than having some crappy painting on the wall at work. It just fills up space so it doesn't look bare in the office.

I plan to hang up my CPA Certification for sure. I have my college diploma in the hall closet. That is a good place for it. Lol. I guess I can bring them both in. I never did before because no one else in our department has, but my new boss has his up. I work with a lot of attorneys and most of them if not all have theirs up.

I have my diplomas hanging in my office at work and plan to put my CPA certificate in there as well. As far as the Master's Degree goes it may not mean much to those in the firm since they are very common but you would be surprised how often it does make a difference to a client.

I have two bachelor degrees hung in my office. I had them framed in a bright color to draw eyes to them. When I get the CPA exam knocked out I plan to push the two degrees apart and put the CPA certificate and permit to practice in the middle so it is sort of a diamond shape. I have two thoughts for you contemplate on this.

1-Think of an upscale doctor or specialist. How would it look then? Remember that you are going for a professional license and you want your papers to look the best.

2-I want clients to come into my office thinking “Man, this guy knows what he is talking about. Look at all those certifications.” Then I let my communication skills drive my points home. Clients need to recognize you have accurate, actionable advice and these are good ways to accomplish that.

For what it's worth, as far as looking like a real person who has a life goes, I have one wall with family and travel stuff on it, one with college/hobby stuff, and one with certification stuff.

To each his own, but I like to think we work really hard for these pieces of paper and should get to showcase them.

Are you tired of BARFing yet?
