Does anyone actually pass when they think they do well?

I have taken one exam at this point which was FAR. I walked out feeling so incredibly devastated, I didn’t know what to do with myself. Then A71 and some of my friends that have their CPA told me I probably did great. I was CERTAIN I failed but then found out I passed.

The more I read on here, the more I hear of people who think they failed but end up passing and the flipside of thinking they did great and end up failing. I understand this is the nature of adaptive testing.

As stupid as this sounds… for future exams, should I honestly be expecting to walk out feeling like I failed beyond belief? Does anyone walk out feeling great about their test and end up actually doing great?

    FAR - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER)
    AUD - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER + NINJA NOTES)
    BEC - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER + NINJA NOTES)
    REG - 2013 - PASSED (YAEGER + NINJA NOTES + NINJA AUDIO)

    ETHICS - 2013 - PASSED

DONE!!! Thank you A71 for all the support! Hiya!!!

I walked out confident that I passed on 2 of them and unsure on two of them. Everyone is different though.

I'll let you know. I can't say I thought I did “well” but I certainly didn't think I did poorly. However, I didn't notice a change in difficulty of the testlets. I posted a thread about this. Some people said they didn't notice a change in difficulty either and still passed. I had quite a few calculations in the second and third testlets but they were pretty simple. It's kind of making me nervous, but nothing I can do about it now…

    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82

I've only taken two so far, but both times I had the same experience — I walked thinking that I gave myself a good chance to pass, but that there were definitely no guarantees. Unless you are really confident that you did great on it, that's probably about the best you could reasonably expect. There are certainly exceptions to that, though.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 88
    REG - 87
    FAR - 86 - Woot, all done!

I thought I did awesome on Audit, ended up failing. I thought I bombed BEC and needed a miracle to pass, and ended up passing. We will see how FAR goes.

    AUD- 71, 73, 87 Done!!!!!
    BEC- 75
    FAR- 72, 77
    REG- 77

I took FAR and was pretty sure i failed, but of course ended up passing. I took AUD twice both time i walked out thinking i passed, and both times i failed. Next time I come out of there i'm not going to be that confident. Maybe that will help me pass 🙂 lol

Ha. With every person that posts, I become more and more convinced I failed because I thought the test was relatively straight forward. Uh oh!

    BEC: (4/2012) 88
    AUD: (5/2012) 91
    REG: (8/2012) 82

I felt I nailed Audit and only got an 80.

BEC I felt I did fine on. I was about 80-20 on whether I passed or not. I was confident on about 70% of the mult choice, and 50-50 on the rest. The writing was cake

Reg I felt 40-60, pass/fail. It felt like half the multiple was on what Becker labeled Ancillary in 2011. Fortunately I had most of the formulas down and nailed the sims.

@Keeley, you probably did pretty well on BEC. BEC is pretty factual compared to the other tests, outside of the managerial accounting and writing.

    Reg 77 (Aug 11)
    Aud 80 (Nov 11)
    BEC 79 (Jan 12)
    FAR 80 (April 12)

I think it varies depending on the section. For my at least, I felt decently good after AUD and BEC (which are probably the less challenging exams for most people), and ended passing them both. But for FAR and specially REG, you will feel as you got cheated and that the AICPA hates the entire human race, as you leave the prometric center. I passed them both also but got really scared of failing them as I had to make various guesses and I encountered lots of tricky questions that were hard to figure out.

    So in general:

AUD BEC – Feeling good after the exam does not necessarily mean you failed the exam

FAR REG – Felling good after the exam could be real bad thing in most cases

    FAR 88 - BEC 86 - AUD 90 - REG 85

I was hoping more people would say they felt they killed it and actually did do great… Looks like I just need to be prepared to feel terrible each time I leave an exam. If I feel good walking out… That means I probably shouldn't be confident.

Time to train myself to have zero emotions, that seems like the way to go 🙂

    FAR - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER)
    AUD - 2012 - PASSED (YAEGER + NINJA NOTES)

    REG - 2013 - PASSED (YAEGER + NINJA NOTES + NINJA AUDIO)

    A 11/11 90
    R 8/11 86

Does anyone actually pass if they get an easy third testlet?

@dtomasello, I felt I got an easy third testlet on both BEC and AUD and passed both. This was not the case for FAR though… I felt my third testlet was the hardest but I don't know my score yet.

    BEC - Feb 2012: 80
    AUD - Feb 2012: 84
    FAR - Apr 2012: 78
    REG - May 2012: 90

    Thanks Becker!

I was pretty sure I passed BEC but not by the margin that I did. I was pretty sure I passed AUD and REG by a better margin than I did. I thought I failed FAR. So yes you can pass after you think you did well.

    Bec 4/11/11 91
    Aud 7/11/11 75
    Reg 8/31/11 80
    Far 5/24/11 86

AUD and BEC testlets did not seem to get harder for me. I felt very good coming out both of those exams and passed. REG and FAR were different stories. I knew I failed and ended up correct. I can't wait to experience the “there is no way I passed and passed” feeling.
