Does it ever get better?

Hey guys, haven’t posted in a long time. I started working while studying, and well you know how that goes. Anyway, I started a new job as an auditor and it’s been a very tough last 5 months. I usually feel like a complete idiot and as soon as I start feeling semi comfortable, I get put on another job with crazy things going like mergers and such. I feel like going home crying most days and I don’t know if it’s just accountant personalities in general, but when I ask questions, I usually get quick answers and they sound like I should know what I’m doing (I don’t). I don’t know if I’m just a slow learner or what or if it’s just hard for me to connect the dots with academics with real world but I can’t go on feeling stressed like this everyday – it’s taking a toll on my health. Maybe I’m just too hard on myself, I don’t know, but are these normal feelings to have? What was your experience like starting out? I’m seriously considering whether I’m cut out to be an accountant. Does it ever get better???

My experience is that the ones who are hardest on themselves are the ones that it's more of a difficult transition. I went through it. You're going through it. It's normal.

As to short and quick answers…is this during busy season? If so, then that's understandable. If not, then you might just have a crappy Senior/Second year staff.
