Does REG get easier when it starts Business Law?

    Hi Everyone,

I am currently studying using Becker. I am really hoping REG is similar to BEC, as in the first couple sections are slow and painful while the last couple sections go by a lot faster. So is business law less intense than tax?

I would study for FAR over REG anyday..

    Thanks!

B Law is different … it's straight up boring, but if you snooze on it … you'll pay.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 80
    FAR - 76
    REG - 92

Business law was very easy for me. But I actually enjoy the topic. I have a MST so I'm all about Tax and law haha maybe I'm weird. But the Business Law chapters are definitely easier than the tax

For me, tax was highly technical but straightforward.

Business law was more like auditing, conceptual and not so straight forward. I would give you the hint that you read the answers to the MCQ beginning with option D. That will break the habit of choosing what you think is the right answer without reading all of the choices.

As with anything, repetition is the key.

I wouldn't say BLaw part is easier. There is so much more B Law/ Reg material than Tax. Both are easy, it's just a lot more memorization for BLaw. BLaw questions are mostly tested on MCQ but tax questions are test on MCQ AND Sims.

BLaw was MUCH harder than tax, in my opinion. I always scored well on the tax portion and the scored poorly on the law portion–being a lawyer is just not my cup of tea!

It really depends on the person. I too earned an MTAX degree so the tax stuff was very straightforward to me. I found the business law to be interesting but also very tricky sometimes. The material itself isn't hard…you just need to spend the time with it.

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

REG has been brutal for me. Business law and tax were my weaker areas in college. I was hoping it was ease up when business law started but I guess not lol The bad part is I'm already drained from studying for all the other sections. Probably wasn't the best idea leaving this section last.

Hopefully everything sticks better when I start my review. I noticed that I don't really retain everything the first time around. It's my 2nd and 3rd go around that everything becomes clear. Hopefully this exam will be a one-and-done for me!

Later chapts of BEC (valuation?) are much more interesting than BLAW.

BLAW will bore you to death but isn't too difficult if you can manage to sit up straight and actually pay attention.

cpa-slave: I completely understand where you are coming from. I am kicking myself for leaving this section for last. I took the minimum required tax/business law classes in college and used all my electives for audit or advanced financial accounting. My base level of knowledge is minimal and I am so burnt out from studying. The good news is that we know what works and doesn't work as far as studying habits, or at least we should at this point. Good luck to you!
