Does your grades in the accounting classes(credits) matter?

I am an international student studying here in US, i had my undergrad in economics and was able to take some accounting classes. I ended up having 16 accounting credits in my undergrad, and currently have 6 graduate accounting credits from my MBA program making it a total of 22 accounting credits.

My concern is that, during my undergraduate studies, i did so poor in my accounting classes. I don’t have good grades in the 16 accounting credits, i am worried if the states board consider your grades, by grades i mean ( A,B,C,D,F) or they just check and evaluate your transcript to be sure you actually took the accounting classes.

Any form of information or experience regarding this will be helpful. Thanks

I believe you have to make a “C” in the accounting courses…anyone back me up on that?

As far as I know, anything but an F is ok to sit. The problem with an F is that you get no credits for it.

Good luck finding a job with a bunch of C's and D's though.

@billbrasskey, the fact that i did poorly in my accounting classes doesn't mean i did bad in my undergrad studies. I had tons of A's and some B's in my economics classes. I graduated with a GPA of 3.4, just wasn't good with accounting classes then. I picked interest in the accounting field when i took my last accounting class “cost accounting”, since then i went on to pass the ACCA and CMA exams. I plan on doing the CPA soon. And i got all A's in my MBA accounting classes.

That's good to hear. It sounds like you should be fine.

Many, if not all states require a certain amount of credits to be in accounting or “accounting related” subjects. One could theoretically meet the 150 total hour requirement, but not the required business/accounting credit requirements.

Being that I've never seen your transcripts, I cannot comment on your candidacy. I can tell you that there is more requirements baked into the 150 total credits.

@CPA soon, i didn't mean to. LOL. to be honest, i failed multiple exams during my ACCA program. It was so hard especially for a non accounting major like me. Don't worry i am use to failure too, and may likely fail some parts of the CPA exam too. haha

@billbrasskey, Thanks for your insight, i was more worried about my bad grades. with my MBA classes and some business classes i took during my undergrad classes, i should be fine with the business credits. I plan on taking 2 or 3 more accounting classes, although my 22 credits qualifies me to sit in some states.

    Good one CPA soon 🙂

excobar – I am working on getting my extra credits to get licensed. As far as I know as long as you get a C or a pass grade you will get credits. For me the CBA board doesn't care if its A or C, as long as I get a passing grade. Wish ACCA and OBU would have give me more credits… Oh well got 32 more credits to work on and hope I get them done by end of 2016.
