    Hello all,

I was recently interviewed with department of Navy for internal audit position. They did not offer me the position but reached out to me for references, so I am hoping something positive is on my way. I work in corporate accounting and internal auditing seems a lot different than what I do. Is anyone out there with internal auditing experience can share their experience? I am a bad writer and I was told internal auditing is all about writing papers. Please share your experience and how different it is from accounting (numbers) work?

    Thank You!

I worked at an insurance company as an internal auditor (intern) for two semesters. I did absolutely no writing, but instead, I was given audit programs that were written by the external auditors and I did the required testing. It was a lot of ticking and attribute testing, which was all documented in Excel spreadsheets. I then turned in my audit programs and accompanying work papers to my internal audit manager who reviewed my work and then passed it onto the external auditors.

I saw her final work product, and she would only summarize my testing and my results in text boxes at the bottom of the Excel sheets. I saw no formal reports or tons of writing done by her.

You are a POOR writer (not a bad one).

Regardless of the specific role requirements, you should work on your writing skills. They have become even more important in recent years with the proliferation of email, “social” work platforms, and instant messenger programs.

@ Tripp11- Thanks for the inputs.

@billbrasskey- Thanks for the advise. I will try not to become one of those “people”.
