Don't know what it keeping me from getting over that 75 point line…

I so far have failed 4 times taking sections of the CPA exam:

    73 (BEC)

    72 (retake FAR)

    71 (first FAR)

    70 (AUD)

I’m obviously in the vicinity of passing – but it seems like something is missing. I feel like I am slowly starting to get really depressed and sad about this exam (and other factors affecting me in my personal life) and it has definitely had a negative impact on my studying. Has anyone gone through this? How did you overcome it?

I'd keep in mind that for AUD, REG and FAR, the SIMS account for 40% of the entire grade. So a gigantic portion of the exam grade is based on 5-7 questions. Be familiar with the concepts in order to do them correctly.

    Licensed Florida CPA:
    B: 71, 73, 79
    A: 83
    R: 78 (expired), 77
    F: 74, 74, 80

    It's finally freaking over.

I'm sorry about your struggles. Although I passed my first cpa a part, I've experienced failures on other exams. I was gonna go to med school and did terrible on mcat. I realized the major change in my studies that brought me success. I used to start out tepidly studying material for awhile, as I was scared of the material. So for cpa studying, that would be like skimming over a review book for a week before picking ip the pace. What changed for me was when my auditing professor showed us a wild approach of immediately diving into the questions. Now this is extreme, and I would not recommend diving in blindly, but for the most part when given the choice to simply read material or to attack questions/actively read and discuss material, choose the active method.

Also, usually people pick up the study pace in the few days before an exam. The way I see it, I don't want to combine the pressure of a test in 4 days with having to work the hardest. Rather, I push the hardest when I'm a couple/few weeks out. Just go for monster 8 hour study days when there is 17 days left before test. That way, you will be almost twiddling your thumbs wondering what to do 2 days before. It leads to resting up a bit more, skimming over notes the day before, and a fresh body and mind on test day. I know it's tough to push without the test bearing down, but do your best to try.

Lastly, when you answer questions correct, ask yourself if you can explain exactly why it's right like if you were teaching a friend who knows nothing. I did that with my wife and I think she could pass too!

    Best of luck to you!

    Audit(11/5/13) - 89
    Reg(5/16/14) - 86
    FAR(7/18/14) - 82
    BEC(11/14) - 85

@WhatAccrualWorld It is very sad you're scoring these marks.Just have a look at your report sheet and work on those areas that you were weak/comparable and you should be fine. For me I would prefer to score low marks and not such heart breaking score. Do not give up for passing the exams is doable .

Like you said, the good news is that your scores indicate you are capable of passing. It probably means there's an area or two that you are weaker on.

What did your report tell you? What sections do you feel you struggled to answer correctly? Looking at things like that is where I started on my re-study for AUD.

The long, long road of the cpa exam is not easy. Try to remember why you started down this path and use that to fuel your efforts.

@WhatAccrualWorld – Have you thought about adding a cram course? I found that very helpful to get me over the hump to 75. For audit I took it in Feb 13 scored 69. Studied same materials just more and got a 74 in May. Added a cram course from Yaeger and studied differently and I gained 11 points. You are close, but you may need to change something.

CA CPA - All because of the journey listed below
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    FAR - 53('10), 8/25/12 79 PASSED!
    REG - 66('11), 69('12), 12/06/12 77 PASSED!!
    BEC - 58('10), 74('12), 01/05/13 77 PASSED!!!
    AUD - 43('11), 66('12), 69('13), 74('13) 7/29/13 85 PASSED!!!!!
