I have been dragging my feet ever since my last score release on March 9th. I am retaking BEC April 21st and just cannot find the motivation or will to study at all! I have slowly been getting through one chapter by reading and taking my own notes. I am currently on chapter 4 of Becker but because I have been so slow I pretty much forgot all prior chapters. Problem is I have never had to retake a test so soon after finding out I failed. Worst part is that this could be my last test and I still have no motivation ugggggh.

Any advice, tips, motivational speeches, etc. to get my arse into gear?!

Is it busy season or are you just being lazy? 😉 I am in the same boat – down to my last test but I am finding NO time or energy to study with these long hours. Each day I get a little more nervous about it, until test day rolls around and I've gone completely insane. Just gotta find it somehow, ONE MORE FRIGGIN TEST

Even worse is that I am NOT in busy season haha I just left B4 and found a nice cushy job working 8-4:30 so I have plenty of time and should have plenty of energy to study buuuuut I choose not to. Being VERY LAZY. I had a little enlightenment today when I kept telling myself ITS THE LAST TEST but only a little….the struggle is real.

I am only doing this because you asked. Life circumstances can change in the blink of an eye. Let's pray and be optimistic that your life will continue down a path of happiness and ease. Moral of the story is….You only have one exam left and are blessed with the time and opportunity to finish the exam. Finish it and get it over with…so you can live without regrets in relation to the exam.

    A - 79 expires 4/30/16 need a pass on REG
    B - 78
    F - 80
    R - 83!!! Can live again!

You can do it Jessica! Kill this exam before the end of the year! You will be set free like a bird.. no more studying. Not sure if you are using Becker but No more Gearty? or whoever is teaching. Good luck on 21!

When I'd get in those moods, my only way out of them was to set myself specific mandatory study obligations (note I called them “obligations”, not “goals”). So, I'd figure out how many study sessions and of what length I had left, then break down my study into the amounts that needed to happen at each study session. For example… Sounds like you're thinking you should be studying after work, so let's say that one night a week you have a night out with friends, and one night a week you have exercise, so you think you should be studying 3 nights a week after work, and you want to finish your review of the book by the end of next week so that you have the following week for MCQs. You'll study Saturday for 5 hours around housework, but none Sunday cause you're going to the beach (I know, too early in the season for the beach, but I can dream!). So, 3 hours a night x 6 nights + 5 hours on Saturday = 23 hours to get through the book. I'd then look through the book and count up how many pages of reading remain, divide it by the 23 hours of studying, and multiple that pages-per-hour by 3 for every night's study requirement, and by 5 for Saturday's study requirement. Then I'd chart out what page I was currently on and what page number that meant I needed to be on each day.

Having such a specific schedule and knowing what was on-time and what was behind was the only thing that could keep me on schedule when I was in that mood. Of course, your results may vary. 🙂 I'm getting into a similar mood at work currently, overwhelmed by all that must be done (I'm in private, but our busy time is starting) and not sure how to find the way up – trying to figure out how to modify my study method to apply here. (Having employees coming to me with questions and interruptions, and a ringing phone, and an email inbox, makes it a bit harder to apply in the work place…)

lol wtf? This is what separates me from you. I actually got it done. You only have one exam left and you choose to peruse the forums asking for advice instead of studying.

You don't need motivation, get back to it,

Wow guys thanks so much for the support!

@Lilla: I appreciate you taking the time to write such a detailed post just for me :]. I think I realized part of my problem is that if I dont study every day I get really down on myself which motivates me even less to start studying the next day. But to your point it does not necessarily have to be an everyday thing just as long as I stick to a schedule! I really appreciate that insight. I need to stop being so hard on myself but also still stick to a strict schedule. I really think I need a week to just do MCQs to your point so ideally I would love to get through the rest of the book by mid or end of next week. Which is doable if I stick to the schedule you spoke of. Thanks again!

    Good luck to you all!

Edit: thanks @the LAST coffee haha that is the real motivation I am asking for!!!!……ill stop perusing i promise

Just do it! 🙂 Once I got started taking my exams, I didn't really have problems with staying motivated. The only time I hit the wall was preparing for FAR, but it wasn't lack of motivation but fear and feeling overwhelmed. I'm a big believer in visualization, so anytime I would freeze up I'd imagine the elation I'd feel checking my score to find out I had passed, and the relief knowing that I'd be done. Whatever you are feeling – laziness, unmotivated, overwhelmed, depressed, etc… that feeling that you get when you pass the last one far surpasses it, and makes it all worth it.

jessica8926 Jessica, I have a BEC retake as well; mine is on April 25th. I have a few days more than you (which means more time to study, but I'll be jealous when you're finished with the exam and I still have to study)!

I've been dragging my feet as well, and there's really no reason for it; we should be staying motivated. I was so on fire in 2015 with my studies – getting up early, staying up late, not watching television or wasting time. After passing AUD and FAR, you'd think I'd be ready to finish strong. Unfortunately, “burn-out” is a real thing, and it's hard to shake off. I think my motivation right now really is getting extra time back with my wife AND not letting myself get into a position of losing credit for my passes so far!

Jessica, you've got this. You scored 3 points higher than me on the first run of BEC, so at least you grasped it better than me the first go round. Let's both just hammer home formulas, concepts, terms, etc. Let's go for an 85 or 90 on this thing! I'm ready to put my elbows down and focus for the next 3 weeks. Keep us posted on your progress.

@cmason.runner86: so great to hear your experience! it sounds like we are both similar in the being on fire/unmotivated/burn out stages! i literally feel just how you explained it! i agree with the not losing credit id lose my first one come August so definitely is part of my motivation! i don't have a husband but do have a boyfriend and also the prospect of getting a puppy when im done so those things alone are all the motivation i need! thanks for helping me to realize that 🙂

I will definitely keep you guys posted and would love to hear how you do as well! Part of why i love this forum is seeing others succeed too! Thanks again and good luck!
