Dumped 4 days before my AUD exam

My boyfriend/fiancée of 5 years dumped me yesterday and my test is on the 7th. I am having a hell of a time focusing and my mind just keeps wondering. Sleeping and eating are a battle. The last thing I want to do right now is study and I just want to zone out, get stoned, and watch tv. My emotions and my level of stress have never been this overwhelming.

Shoot, I'm sorry. If he knew about this test and what a big deal it is, that wasn't very thoughtful of him! Of course, my SO doesn't really get it either, so he's been pretty grumbly about the studying.

Just try to pour your energy into studying. I had a big fight with my sister right before AUD (we're still not speaking, so it was BIG), and I pretty much just shoved it away and put everything into my studies. Not healthy emotionally, I guess (but I have good outlets for helping to deal with it), but it worked so I could get done what I needed to do.

    Hang in there.

    AUD 84 (1/9/14-Wiley books/TB + free materials)
FAR 83 (5/21/14-the above + NINJA 10 Pt Combo Lite)
    REG 84 (7/9/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC/Notes)
    BEC 76 (10/5/14-Wiley books/TB + NINJA Audio/FC)

WOW! I am so sorry. Relationships can sure SUCK!

Exercise, exercise, exercise (and exorcise) the “demons” out of your head.

Tell yourself, I'm sure going to get (angry, sad, upset, cry, scream, deal with him) when I'm done with my test.

He's gonna be sorry when he sees you again when you're a confident, successful CPA!

Feel free to use my new favorite bad behavior line – FYYFF 😉

    Take care,

    AUD - 80
    BEC - 77
    FAR - 80
    REG - 80
    3 years

    + 16 tests

    + 2 expired sections

    = DONE FOREVER!

    AUD 88 (expired), 80 retake

    The adventure continues...

Terrible timing! I think you just have to do the best you can..unless you want to consider pushing it back. I had to break up with my girlfriend about a week ago…The only real bright side is the extra free time. I can now study without feeling guilty….As I said the timing us terrible but long term….it's going to make the rest of your exam so much easier…..

    MBA,CMA,CPA, CFF?, ABV?

If he can be that inconsiderate that he has to break up with you just before your exam then think of it as “good riddance.”

You may not see it this way right now, but if someone bails out right when you need them the most to support you, you don't want someone like that in your life long term. They are not worthy of you.

I know its hard but pull your self together, focus on your exam. Put every single ounce of your energy into studying and Pass!

You got a 94 on FAR, you're probably smarter and cooler than him anyway. Kill AUD and go have some fun afterwards.

94 on FAR is amazing! And I'm betting you've got it in you to kill Audit!

The best feeling is going to be when you have all four of these tests passed, CPA license in hand, and have moved long far and away from him. I believe it is far more important for you to focus on developing yourself and setting your path into the future. And he is one day going to regret his decision – when you've got license in hand and are earning 3x his earning potential. It can happen – and you have it in you to do it.

for now: FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS! You could have this thing knocked out before Christmas!

    REG - Nov 4, 2013: 88
    FAR - Feb 27, 2014: 86
    AUD - April 5, 2014: 91
    BEC - May 6, 2014: 83

    Florida CPA 24 July 2014
(Done in seven months - thank you Jesus!!)

There's plenty of time to grief when the test is over. For now, try to focus until exam day.

Stay strong friend! My boyfriend/fiance of 5 years and I had a HUGE fight and almost broke up right before my FAR exam and that was tough to continue to study through. You can do it! Just try your best to stay positive even though nothing we say can help that much. YOU CAN DO IT!

    BEC - 87!
    FAR - 83!
    AUD - 80!
    REG - 76!

    I'M DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!!!

My grandma died a couple days before I took AUD. I was also dealing with a breakup at the time. Being behind on studying already, I checked out and ended up failing. If I could go back, I would have realized I had no control over those things. The only thing I could control was my determination to pass the exam even though I was grieving.

At the time, I also found this quote from a fellow 71'er. “The reality is, the CPA exam is more loyal than your girlfriend could ever be. This means no matter what happens between you and her, the three letters will always be behind your name.” As cheesy as it sounds, I saved the quote for motivation.

    Passed all sections.

My sister was diagnosed with a really bad illness recently right before my exam and you're going to wine about being dumped? Give me a break….grab those gahonas and keep marching, you'll find someone better after..

Oh and stop smoking. Seems like you got a high score which may allude to how bright you are. The last thing you want to do is cause permanent brain damage by smoking – yes it does cause permanent brain damage according to the most recent studies.

Aslo, you will eventually become very dumb if you continue or do smoke. I promise you it will happen. It's only inevitable. You may be ultra intelligent at the moment which will prolong the approaching stupidity caused by such a grotesque habit, but rest assured, gravity is a law.

@steven–Just because there are people with worse problems out there doesn't make her problems any less significant to her. 5 years is not just a casual dating relationship. 5 years is a life you have made with someone else and she can “whine” about if she wants to. Did it make you feel good to put down everything that she said and kick her when she's down? Nothing you said was encouraging or motivating at all and this forum is for motivation and encouragement.

Ugh, hang in there. That sucks… sorry I have nothing more motivational to say besides commiseration, but there it is.

Also, saying someone shouldn't be upset about something because someone else has it worse is like saying they shouldn't be happy because someone else has it better. Everyone's issues are big and real to THEM and that's what counts.

    FAR - 79 (11/27/13)
    AUD - 76 (2/1/14)
    REG - 77 (5/30/14)
    BEC - 88 (7/18/14)

    MN Ethics - 100% (3/9/14)

    AND DONE! 8/1/14

You may feel like completely zoning out…but just think would you like to see yourself in a miserable state of loosing your credit and not getting through the remaining 3 parts? You got a 94 on FAR, so you sure do have it in you to get through this mountain.

I know it sounds like a cliché, but be grateful your boyfriend/fiancée dumped you, it just shows you who you can trust for support. Getting through CPA is taxing enough, you don't need to spend your precious energy on someone who is not there to support you when you most need them.

As a suggestion, I got through some pretty rough time by going for skydiving. Sometimes you just need to do something that will make you believe you can do anything.
