Does anyone have any suggestions on how much time it generally takes to prepare for the special enrollment examination?

I used Gleim(test prep & book) option. It all depends on your knowledge.

    1. Part 1 – Individual taxation 50-75 hours

    2. Part 2 – Entities Taxation 75-100 hours

    3. Part 3 – Representation 40 hours.

You have 2 years to pass the other two parts after passing the first part. For a regular tax preparer, I would recommend part 2 first and then parts 1 & 3. For CPA candidates, I would recommend part 3 first and then parts 1 & 2. Licensing takes about 6 weeks. No exams can be scheduled between April 1st and May 31st.

    AUD: Passed
    REG: Passed
    BEC: Passed
    FAR: Passed

@Miserylovescompany Thank you for your detailed instruction regarding the EA exam prep. I actually plan to take it after the CPA exam is done and it is helpful to know to complete business entities first hearing that that is the hardest exam. Looking forward to the journey to success. Back to work and studying for the CPA exam for me.

@ DWlefty13 & hutchinson29 – I am currently an EA. I do agree that Gleim has a good review course since most of my friends have used it and passed. However, regarding taking the exam for Business entities first, I highly disagree. The Individual is far more difficult than compared to the Business exam. I practically had a much easier time with the Business section than I had with the Individual. So you should be take the exams in order of Individual, Business, and Representation.

Thanks everyone for the input. For the study materials I am considering using Exam Matrix. I have no tax experience and have one year left for my degree. I was thinking of studying over the summer and taking it at the end of the summer. My school gets out pretty early so I'll have a few more weeks to study than most. I am hoping it aids in landing a job in the tax field.
