CPAexcel has partnered with the University of North Alabama (UNA) to offer the Professional Accounting Prep Program. The program is designed to help individuals earn university accounting credits to meet the 150-hour requirement to be eligible to take the CPA Exam.

Many individuals looking to make a career change to accounting discover that they need additional academic coursework. The UNA Professional Accounting Prep Program is designed to meet these educational needs and provides the following benefits:

Take up to eight 3-credit hour accounting/business law courses. The courses offered are those that are commonly required by states to sit for the CPA Exam.

All courses are offered online to meet the demands of your busy life.

All courses are taught by full-time faculty at UNA using state-of-the-art instructional technology developed by Efficient Learning Systems. These faculty are available to provide guidance and feedback as you complete the course requirements.

Tuition is $475 per 3-credit course, which includes the costs of all study text materials.

Hope this is helpful for those needing additional credits. *kma*

Wow, because you guys do traditional grading (A, B, C, D, F) I can probably get my company to pay for this! A lot of the other programs for credit do pass or fail grading.

How are the exams handled? Do you just take them through CPA Excel?

I am taking 12 units this upcoming semester with UNA so that I can qualify for my CPA license with the new educational requirements under California.

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

Do they use Wiley materials? I would like to stick with that test bank, if possible. Which CPA Excel course package is included as part of the tuition? Is HiYa the coupon code ;o)

    @CPA_AnyDayNow

Mostly people have 120 Credits. So the catch up needed is 30 credits. Do you know if UNA provides all 30 credits online.

Further are those credits acceptable by all State Boards of Accountancy.

All of the cpaexcel classes are online. You are offered only the portion of the cpaexcel materials that are relevant to that particular course. I believe the audit class is the only class that allows access to a full section of CPAexcel for $475. I am enrolled in their business law and individual tax class so I will not have access to the corporate tax component until I pay for the corporate tax class. Once I pay for tax 1, tax 2, and business law I will have access to the full REG section of CPA excel for over $1300. Its pricey but if you don't want to study non CPA related stuff to get your units it is worth it depending on your financial circumstances. I still have not figured out how long you have access to cpaexcel once you submit a class for grading. If anyone knows please let me know.

    Study Monk,

Do they use Wiley Test Bank? Do you get the full Wiley test bank upon signing up for any of the classes for that section. I need the tax classes but I can't use the business law one since I have taken it already.

No Wiley test bank will not be part of the classes. It is 100 percent cpaexcel with no additional lectures from UNA. You will be graded on CPA excel homework, quizes, and tests for your final grade. Your book will be cpaexcel online reading materials.

Oh, I thought Wiley and CPA Excel were the same company now.

I think Wiley will be the budget program still and CPAexcel will be there slightly higher end product. If anything they will eliminate Wiley and not the other way around. That's just my opinion based on the economics of the situation.

To get reimbursed from my company, I will need a bill from the school instead of from CPA excel. Will UNA produce a bill like they would if you paid them directly?

    @ akkula,

You end up paying cpa excel and they throw the school some money as far as I can tell. They have some contact information from the school on the website:

    https://una.cpaexcel.com/papp/enroll.html

My guess is your have trouble getting payment information from the school since they only receive a portion of your tuition.

I bought this program and then returned it. I was expecting to have more of a CPA prep course for REG with a couple of extra assignments in order to get college credit. The reality seemed like this school was using CPA Excel just as a delivery platform for an online class. This is good for people trying to get credits but if you want a serious CPA prep course with a big test bank of sample questions, this probably isn't for you.

I would put them more in the category of LSU or UCLA extension. They are a good, inexpensive way to get some extra credits but you will need a more focused set of material if you are going to be trying to use it to study for an exam section.

    Hi all,

I have done BSc(hons) in applied accounting from UK and am eligible to approx 95 credit hours.

I want to take UNA prep course that should get me 24 credit hours (8×3) for $3800. Need this to reach to 120 hours to sit for the exam.

My selected states are either Montana, NH or Alaska.

I would request friends to comment if my approach is correct. and if anyone can share his/her experience.

    Many thanks

Thanks for the info on this! I already have my MS in Accounting and more than 150 hours so I don't need any more credits to meet education requirements, but my CPA boss's son who has his BS in Accounting is trying to complete the rest of his hours at a community college in the evenings and I'm pretty sure this is less expensive, more convenient, and more useful in terms of initial CPA exam prep. I've sent all of the info to him via email, so hopefully CPAexcel gains another student and I get some more brownie points with the boss. And of course I've sung the praises of the NINJA 10 Point Combo, as well. 🙂

I actually purchased the Roger CPA Review course and Roger's teaching style isn't as effective for me personally as I thought it would be, so I also purchased the full set of 2014 Wiley CPAexcel Study Guides and I'm much happier with the content they provide, even though it's a bit dry and excessively long. But to each their own!
